Okay, let’s be real for a second: So much work goes on behind the scenes when styling a mega celebrity for a magazine cover. You can’t just throw an outfit on a star, take a few pics, and call it day—getting the perfect shot requires lots and lots (and lots) of planning.
Intrigued? Thought so. Which is why we’re so excited to debut our new video series, “How I Styled It,” where Cosmo‘s fashion director Cassie Anderson will explain all the minute details and decision-making that go into styling a cover star.
ICYMI, our latest issue features none other than *the* Lindsay Lohan on the cover, in celebration of her upcoming Netflix project ‘Falling for Christmas.’ Obviously, we had to be bold.
The idea? Old Hollywood glamour. Dress downed in a vintage black Valentino dress eating popcorn in a movie theater. Sitting in a mock dressing room rocking a blue feathered Adriana Degreas dress with black Piferi strappy sandals. Sprawled on a fake director chair wearing a sparkly vintage Chanel jumpsuit and Roger Vivier heels. I’m not a fashionista, but even I can tell it’s giving Golden Age.
The first step in styling? Prep. “Before I style someone, I do a deep dive in their past editorial and red carpet,” says Anderson. Then comes the vision. What is Lindsay trying to say here? “We want to make her look strong—she’s back [and] she’s powerful,” Anderson adds.
Of course, the vision is only a half of the workflow. There’s making sure Linds is comfortable with the look too. She can’t look her best if she doesn’t feel her best.
Want to know even more deets about Lindsay’s cover look? Watch the first episode of our new series above. I’m already making notes for my own wardrobe.
