Warning: The following contains spoilers for season 3 of Yellowstone.
In a new behind the scenes feature for the upcoming fourth season of Yellowstone, actor Cole Hauser (Rip) teased bloodshed—lots of bloodshed.
The video features interviews with several actors ahead of the November 7 season premiere. (Though, obviously none with those whose character fates remain hidden.)
Hauser—speaking in terse Rip—summarized where we stand going into the fourth season: “John Dutton has been shot up. Beth has been blown up. Kayce was in a gunfight.”
Wes Bentley (Jamie) also confirmed the story structure for at least the first episode, explaining that season 4 will open “in real time” directly following the events of the season three finale. That episode will run for two hours. Whether “real time” entails only the first sequence, or whether all two hours will play out in this format—24-style—we don’t yet know. If it’s anything like Bentley’s reaction to the script—“My heart was pumping just reading it”—we’re in for a helluva time.
Series Co-Creator Taylor Sheridan broke down the season’s central conflict: “It was a devastating attack against the family, so we gotta figure out who’s left to look into it [emphasis added], and that’s my goal.” That whodunnit structure seems to intimate at least one fatality. Still, whether or not one of the Duttons died, season 4 is giving us war.
A war on whom seems to be the million-dollar question rolling into the season. Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater) said something revealing when he explained the season’s conflict as all parties “meeting a force that’s greater than we have previously encountered.”
That doesn’t sound like repeat offenders from previous seasons (some theories have been floated that the attackers were the California bikers or a revenant Malcom Beck.) It sounds like something new—something big.
No matter who it was, “there’s going to be a lot of consequences,” said Sheridan.
Or, the way Hauser summarized the drama: “Everybody is gonna get fucked up.”
