The TV star replied to the original tweet which detailed the attack: “So my daughter just got mugged of her phone outside Tesco on west street Sheffield at 11:20,” the user wrote.

“No witnesses. If anyone saw anything be good to know…

“Imagine grabbing the phone off a young girl using a wheelchair who’s just been allowed out after shielding.”

Dan urged people to come froward with any new information: “We know Ella and her family. She is amazing and wonderful and it’s so horrible that this happened to her.

“If you’re able to help… that would be brilliant,” he wrote.

The family friend thanked him for his help: “Thanks Dan… she’s shaken but doing fine and has had loads of wonderful messages. A one off I reckon.”

It didn’t take long before more fans were sending their well wishes to Ella after the cruel theft.

“Sorry it happened I hope to hear a positive outcome!!!” one replied to Dan’s tweet.

Another added: “OMG….so many heartless people in this world!!”

“That is so awful, do hope Ella is OK,” a third commented.

A fundraiser was set up by another family friend in hopes to get Ella a new phone.

The description on the page read: “This fundraiser is for Ella Rose who is the daughter of my good friend Jack.

“I know Ella well, she’s a wheelchair user who has been shielding since the coronavirus pandemic started.

“Since the shielding restrictions have been lifted she’s made very few trips out.”

It continued: “Today on one of those few trips she was mugged outside Tesco in Sheffield City Centre. Her phone was stolen as a result. I’ve seen a few people offer to pay for or contribute to a new phone so have set up a Gofundme so we can get her a new iPhone!

“Any funds raised over the target will be sent to support SHASBAH (Sheffield Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus) who have been a great support to Ella throughout her life.”

So far, 85 generous individuals have raised £1,142 to put towards getting Ella a new phone.

The family friend posted an update saying that the cost of the phone has been covered by the donations but they will continue to raise money via the GoFundMe to support the SHASBAH charity.

While Dan was doing his bit for his good friends, he was also helping out others as well.

One fan asked him about his recent trip to London as they were sceptical about going due to coronavirus.

“We did feel safe,” the presenter, who lives in Sheffield, reassured them.

“Hotel staff were great and safety seemed to be the top priority for everyone. Normally this time of year you queue for 2 hours for the Crown Jewels. We went round twice and there were 6 others in there. This was the queue for the London Eye on Friday morning.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
