Debbie McGee, 61, recently appeared on the celebrity version of the Channel 4 show Come Dine With Me. The Strictly Come Dancing star was joined at her home by reality personality Charlotte Dawson, Dick and Dom of In Da Bungalow fame, drag queen Courtney Act and Snapchat star Steve The Madman.
As the celebrities feasted on their meal, presenter Dom Wood, 41, revealed the moment he first encountered magician Paul Daniels – who was married to Debbie until his death in 2016.
She quizzed the star: “You wrote to him, didn’t you?”
To which Dom replied: “I did. When I was about 15 and I needed a bit of help with my act. I thought who better than the best magician in the world than Paul.”
At the time, the CBBC star had been training to become a magician and at one point was the youngest member of The Magic Circle.

He continued: “So I wrote him a handwritten letter and then the phone rang. And I can remember my mum came to find me in the living room and said, ‘Dominic it’s him on the phone.’
“He said to me, ‘My name is Paul Daniels.’ I couldn’t believe it and I picked up the phone and my hand was shaking. He asked me to come over to your house and he’ll do a magic trick.”
His co-star Richard “Dick” McCourt, 43, asked Debbie if she remembered Dom visiting the couple’s home and the former magician’s assistant confirmed she did recall the moment.
Dom said: “It’s certainly a moment that I’ll never forget in my entire life.”
Debbie mused: “Look, now here we are,” as the celebrities sat around the dining room table.
Speaking to the camera about his recollection of Paul, the presenter admitted the magician was a “lovely” person to have encountered.
“He was such a strong and lovely character. So for him to not be here it feels like someone is missing from the table,” Dom finished.
Debbie admitted it was nice to have a moment and reminisce about her late husband.

“And I think, oh my God, he was such a busy person, who always made time for people.”
The former magician’s assistant recalled a moment a fan revealed the way her late husband had boosted her confidence – much to her surprise.
She recalled: “A girl came up to me about two years ago and said, ‘I met Paul after a show and asked for an autograph with my family when I was about 14.
“’And I’m very tall and I always walked hunched over – I was very embarrassed about it. And when he was signing my autograph book he said to me, ‘You’re a tall good looking girl. Stand up straight and be proud of it’”.
Debbie went on: “Those little tales of kindness – him giving his time to people. He never told me about.”
