Democratic campaign insiders are getting tired of one of their own making what they say are dubious claims. And they’d had enough Thursday, when Kamala Harris’ press guy, Ian Sams, boasted on CNN that President Obama had “supported” Harris “in her first district attorney’s race all the way back in 2003,” even though, various campaign insiders noted with some exasperation, Obama didn’t meet Harris until 2004.
The claim comes after Sams tweeted a story in March about “a woman in a MAGA hat” who spoke to Harris for “a minute.”
“Swear to God,” Sams said, “she then took off her MAGA hat and told Kamala she isn’t with Trump anymore.”
(One reply read, “I once picked up a copy of the New Yorker that contained a profile of Kamala Harris, and it instantly cured my eczema.”)
Sams told us, “I was running on 2.5 hours of sleep after [last week’s] debate so I guess I misspoke about the DA’s race, even though I said they’ve been friends for 15 years, which is true.”
He said the MAGA-hat incident was “100 percent true,” and added, “If other camps are spending their time frustrated by minor anecdotes said by a flack, then their candidate must not be giving them enough work to do.”
