Because he is very, very wealthy, non-athletic Canadian dweeb Aubrey Graham successfully bought his way onto the court at the NBA finals, and acted a fool. Last night in Toronto, Drake’s home team, the Toronto Raptors, hosted the reigning world champions and my home team, the Golden State Warriors, in the first game of the series. But this isn’t about me and Drake repping different hoods. This is about Drake disrespecting the game with his childish antics. Also, I only knew it was the finals because I noticed a lot of people walking around in Golden State attire last night and put 2 and 2 together. 2+2 = Sportsball!
First of all, Aubrey came to the game wearing a vintage Dell Curry Raptors jersey. Star quarterback Steph Curry’s dad Dell played for the Raptors from 1999 to 2002. But this slight was nothing compared to the literal trash talking Aubrey directed towards Golden State shortstop Draymond Green after his team lost. According to People:
After the rapper’s beloved team, the Toronto Raptors, beat the Warriors for their first NBA Finals game win in franchise history, Drake, 32, can be seen on the sidelines talking smack to Golden State player Draymond Green.
As Green, 29, exited the court with the rest of the players, he came alongside Drake, who appeared to yell the word “trash” at the power forward after the two shared a heated exchange.
While Drake’s smug mug went on to inspire many a meme, not everybody thinks Drake’s unprecedented access is earned or cute. Apparently giving Raptors coach Nick Nurse a mid-game shoulder rub during the lead up to the finals was a bridge too far for some. Milwaukee Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said:
“I see it in some timeouts, but I don’t know of any person that’s attending the game that isn’t a participant in the game a coach — I’m sorry, a player or a coach that has access to the court,” Budenholzer, 49, said of the rapper’s behavior in a press conference last week, when the teams were tied in their series, 2-2.
“There’s certainly no place for fans and, you know, whatever it is exactly that Drake is for the Toronto Raptors,” he continued. “You know, to be on the court, there’s boundaries and lines for a reason, and like I said, the league is usually pretty good at being on top of stuff like that.”
Mike then shook his cane and hobbled back inside. But Drake’s worked too hard for too long to buy the respect of the cool kids to let some square in a suit challenge what he can get away with. There must be a sign erected in the arena with a picture of Drake on it that reads “You Must Be This Rich To Touch The Players”. Drake thumbed his nose at the haters, and continued riding his Big Wheel all over Mr. Budenholzer’s lawn.
He even had the gumption to pick a piece of lint out of Steph’s hair and take it home to put in his scrapbook.
Look at those soft, fleshy, indoor kid hands. So plump and well hydrated, you’d never guess they belonged to the thirstiest boy in the world.
