Gemma Atkinson, who welcomed her daughter Mia with boyfriend and Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez last year, admitted she felt “useless” during her outing today. The Hollyoaks favourite spoke out in view of her 1.5 million followers.

The 35-year-old posted a heartfelt video on the picture-sharing site after she witnessed a mother struggling with a young baby in a shop.

The Strictly Come Dancing finalist shared details about why the moment made her a “bit upset”.

Gemma said she wanted to reach out to the woman and “give her a hug” as her baby continued to “scream” inside the supermarket.

She began: “I just nipped into the supermarket before I came into work and there was a lady in there, bless her, with a baby who was weeks old.

“A tiny little baby and I don’t know if she was a first-time mum like myself.”

Gemma explained that the mum appeared to “panic” as she battled a crying infant while trying to shop.

She continued: “The baby was screaming and the woman, bless her, couldn’t do her shopping.

“She had a basket with the baby in her arms.”

Gemma went on: “You know when you want to go over to someone and just hug them. I know that it sounds weird.

“I genuinely wanted to go over and say to her, ‘Don’t worry’.”

The actress admitted she avoided shopping with her daughter Mia when she was a newborn because it was too challenging.

“I could tell she was panicking about people looking and it got me a bit upset,” Gemma commented.

“I don’t know why. I must be hormonal.”

She concluded: “I wanted to say to her, ‘Don’t worry. It’s fine. Babies cry. Newborn babies cry’.

“I couldn’t even be in the supermarket when Mia was that tiny because I was useless.

“So the fact that she’s out doing the shopping, bless her. I hope she’s alright.”

It comes after Gemma recently offered birthday wishes to her partner Gorka on his 30th birthday last week.

She took to her page once again to mark the occasion, and revealed why they sadly couldn’t be together.

Gorka is currently with the other Strictly Come Dancing 2020 professionals, ahead of the show launch next month.

The pros are thought to be rehearsing and filming the group numbers ahead of time due to the coronavirus pandemic.
