Dame Arlene Phillips is reported to be the first contestant lined up for the next series of I’m a Celebrity… Get me out of Here.

The former Strictly Come Dancing judge would be the oldest celebrity to take part in the hit ITV show at 78-years old. She’ll take over the title as oldest contestant from Boris Johnson’s father, Stanley Johnson, who took part in 2017 when he was 77 years old.

According to The Mirror, Arlene will brave the elements in Gwrych Castle in North Wales for the show later this year and have a lot of fun doing it.

A source said: “Arlene is strong and tough and her energy is boundless."

“No doubt she’ll have the group dancing around the campfire in a bid to beat the cold and keep morale high. Should be fun.”

The report comes after the award-winning choreographer shared that she was ready for a new challenge.

She said: “I now want to do things that are totally out of my comfort zone.”

OK! has reached out for a comment from Arlene's representatives.

Older contestants have also achieved a lot of success on I'm A Celeb as Harry Redknapp became King of the Jungle aged 70 in 2018. Meanwhile, fans loved watching Caitlin Jenner take on the jungle trials in 2019 aged 70.

Arlene served as a judge on BBC’s Strictly from 2004 to 2008, before she was famously axed from the panel and replaced by Alesha Dixon in 2009.

For the West End legend's commitment and contribution to drama and to charity, the Queen appointed her a Dame earlier this year.

Arlene would be the first Dame to take part in the ITV show.

Arlene is set to direct the new Cher musical, The Cher Show, next year, but it seems her talents might be on the TV very shortly on ITV’s twentieth series of the show.

I’m a Celebrity hosts, Ant and Dec, have already teased fans with a glimpse of the Welsh castle on social media as they filmed the trailer back in early September.

Once again the star-studded series will be taking place in North Wales, rather than in the Australian jungle in New South Wales due to Australia’s ongoing lockdown in the area.

Yet, the stunning castle might be tougher than ever this series according to Vernon Kay, a 2020 finalist of the show.

He said: “I’ve heard that it’s going to be more vicious, it’s going to be on a bigger scale and they’re going to be doing lots more activities.”
