A Canadian woman who used a Metallica song to scare away a cougar while walking her dog received a surprise call from the co-founder of the heavy metal band, James Hetfield.
Vancouver Island resident Denise Gallant was walking with her dog last week when she came face-to-face with a wild cougar.
She played Metallica’s “Don’t Tread On Me” on her phone to scare away the predator.
“I would love to contact them someday and tell James Hetfield that he saved my life,” she told local news outlet KelownaNow.
She subsequently got a call from Metallica’s rep saying that the band’s lead vocalist is on the line to speak to her.
“I was a little bit lost for words,” Gallant told CTV. “It’s surreal how quickly it happened and how far it’s gone. The fact that he’s so down to earth and such a great person, I’m very pleased to find that out first-hand.”
The call was followed by a selfie from Hetfield, who said, “Thought you might like some confirmation that it was me.”
