Meghan Markles subtle hand gesture shows shes in awe of Queen, says expert

Hand gestures made by Meghan Markle towards the Queen during a past engagement showed the Duchess of Sussex to be in “awe” of the Head of the State, an expert has said.

Before Prince Harry and Meghan announced that they were stepping down as active Royal members a couple of years ago, the pair were seen at several public appointments following their duties as part of the Windsor family.

On one particular occasion, Meghan spent much time with Her Majesty as the pair carried out day-long engagements together while over in Chester during the summer of 2018.

They arrived to the Northwest of England by Royal Train and, while on their visit, witnessed the opening of Mersey Gateway Bridge, appearing happy and relaxed in each other's company throughout their trip.

As the Royals were pictured talking among themselves, body language expert Judi James was able to point out the significance of the hand gestures Meghan made to the Queen – revealing her how she truly felt about her.

"It was clear from the Queen's congruent and very spontaneous-looking smiles that she was delighted to have her new granddaughter-in-law beside her on this visit,” Ms James said at the time.

"Meghan did appear rather nervous initially though, emerging coyly from the train and using some more tentative gesticulation than usual.

"Without new husband Prince Harry beside her to touch and hug her, there was a noticeable increase in Meghan's self-comforting self-touch and checking rituals, suggesting she is still quite in awe of her doting grandmother-in-law."

The Duchess of Sussex spent only a brief time as a royal – 18 months to be exact – before moving to the US with Harry where they would go on to carve out independent roles from the Royal family.

Following Meghan’s joint statement with Harry that they would be exiting their roles as senior monarchs, crisis talks were held for two days between Harry, Prince William, Prince Charles and the Queen at the Sandringham Summit.

The meeting eventually led to Her Majesty submitting to Meghan and Harry’s decision to leave the Firm, addressing their move in a public statement released by Buckingham Palace which read: “While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family.”

While the relationship between the Royal family and Meghan and Harry has become distant since their move, the pair have still shown their fondness of the Queen, naming their baby daughter Lilibet after her.
