Nick Hewer, 77, took to Twitter to share a unique meeting with a fan earlier today. The Countdown star admitted he had been “ambushed” in a disappointing interaction outside a tube station.

Nick is no stranger to fame, having been a stalwart of the small-screen for a long time.

The star first appeared as an advisor to Alan Sugar on The Apprentice.

Before his exit from the show in 2014, he also began hosting the Channel 4 show Countdown.

Despite his success, the former consultant was still shocked by a fan interaction.

Nick recounted the meeting earlier today in view of his 212,000 followers on Twitter.

He wrote: “Natalia Okrasa ambushed me outside Glos Road tube today.

“What a lovely young woman – stunning in fact – only to tell me her mum is a fan, not her.”

Despite his disappointment, Nick’s fans were quick to give him support by liking his post.

Nick was replaced on Countdown earlier this year by Anne Robinson.

The star had been the longest-running host since Richard Whiteley before his exit.

Speaking about the decision back in December, he shared a statement on Twitter.

He said: “Delighted to be back in the Countdown studio after another enforced lockdown, BUT this latest lockdown has given me an opportunity to consider my future life and I’ve decided it’s a good time to step down at the end of my contract in the New Year.

“As someone in his 77th year who will be in his 10th year hosting the great British institution that is Countdown, I think it’s time to smell the flowers and get a dog.”

Nick added: “And a sincere thanks to our loyal viewers and of course the legions of contestants who battle their brains out for the chance of carrying off the Richard Whiteley Trophy or a priceless teapot.”

Elsewhere, Nick recently congratulated his former co-star Rachel Riley.

This comes after she gave birth to her second child with her husband Pasha Kovalev.

Nick retweeted the news from November 8 as Rachel shared some pictures.

She had written: “We have some news…!

“Introducing @PashaKovalev’s newest dance partner – baby Noa was finally born.

“15 days after her due date, late on Friday night to the sound of fireworks!”
