The Only Way Is Essex star Amy Childs exclusively revealed with OK! that she’s expecting twins with her boyfriend Billy Belbosq – something which came as a shock to the pair.
While Amy, 32, had come off contraception earlier this year, the reality TV star didn’t expect to conceive so quickly as she discovered she was pregnant just two months later. Making the surprise even bigger, she later found out she’s carrying twins.
Now, in her exclusive column for OK!, Amy will discuss being pregnant with twins, and how she feels like she’s “going back to square one” despite having had two babies before.
In her first column below, the expectant mother discusses the prospect of having a home birth, and if her babies will be identical…

I feel like I’m going back to square one!
As a new mum, you can read every single book, you can talk to loads of people, but you’re never actually ready until you have your own baby. Polly was such a good baby, and Ritchie was a good baby as well – I just sort of winged it really. But with twins, I feel like I’m back to square one now.
I’ve been googling and speaking to my friends who have got twins, but I don’t think you’re ever ready until they’re here. Every baby’s different! We’ll see what happens.
Frankie Essex has been amazing
Obviously as a mum-of-two, I’m in all these mum groups that I joined when Polly was a newborn 5 years ago, I’m in the school chat and that kind of stuff. I’m very open to learning about the babies and everything, and Frankie rang me up straight away after the announcement and said, ‘Right, what do you need?’
I was asking her if I need a double cot, I obviously need to get a double buggy, what do you think? So, she’s been absolutely amazing. Absolutely incredible.
The babies' genders…
We’re finding out the genders for the twins because I thought about how lovely it would be to do a gender reveal for me, Bill and the family, or if we do something just us two.
Billy is a first time dad so he obviously wants that excitement of finding out. We’re definitely finding out because I feel like I need to be organised.
If I was pregnant again with just one baby, I’d have never found out the gender. It would have been a surprise. But with twins, because it’s such a shock to us, we sort of need to know what we need to get. We need to be prepared for it.
I’d never have a home birth
People have been so interested in my birth plan and I’d never have a home birth. I’d never do it because, obviously with twins now, I feel like if anything did go wrong then we’d be at a hospital.
I do think as well, if I had a home birth I don’t think I’d be able to look at my home the same way. It’s really mad because even when I had Ritchie and Polly at Broomfield Hospital in Essex, I literally went past the place about 3 weeks after and it gave me the heebeegeebees. I thought, ‘Oh my God I can’t look at this place, it makes me feel ill’.
With twins, I’m high risk. I’m not high risk personally as I’m fit and 32 and whatever, but I’ve learnt that when you have twins it’s classed as high risk. But I’d never have a home birth anyway in case of any complications and if anything happened.
The twins might be identical
With the twins, I have two different sacs and two different placentas. However, what I didn’t know is that they can still be identical even though they’re in different sacs. You learn something new every day!
Three weeks ago we had our 12 week scan and that’s when they explained to me that they can still be identical. Obviously we don’t know yet because we don’t know the genders, but we know if it’s a boy and girl they’ll be non-identical.
It’s mad because the twins could look like Polly and Ritchie. Obviously I don’t put Ritchie on social media, but he’s so much like me. When people see us out, people can’t believe how much he looks like me – he’s my double. And Polly looks like my mum.
With Bill being a first time dad, we were talking about who we think the twins will look like: one could come out looking like me, the other like him. You just don’t know, do you?
Polly’s been talking to the babies in my belly
Polly made me really emotional yesterday. She’s obviously seen me, but she’s not really seen me with my belly out and I had my knickers on as I was heading to the shower and Polly went to me, 'Oh my god. Your belly’s looking so big mum. When are they coming?’
It’s really mad because she then walked up to my belly and kissed it then started talking to the babies. It was so cute. She’s convinced I’m having a boy and a girl.
