TV host Steph McGovern, 39, has taken to social media to celebrate after her Steph’s Packed Lunch co-star Rhys Stephenson was named as the latest celebrity contestant to be announced for this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing. Yesterday, Steph congratulated Bake Off winner John Whaite after he was named as the fourth star in the line-up and today, she celebrated as co-star Rhys was named as the fifth celeb to be announced in the dance show, which is set to start later this year.
Another regular from @PackedLunchC4 makes it into the Strictly line up!
In view of her 414,300 followers, the former BBC presenter celebrated the good news.
She wrote: “Aw brilliant! Another regular from @PackedLunchC4 makes it into the Strictly line up!
“Rhys is such a fab lad and hilarious.
“Always has me and @OtiMabuse in stitches when we work with him,” she ended the post.
Steph reposted the news from the official Strictly Twitter account.
They penned: “Swapping @CBBC mornings for #Strictly Saturday nights.
“It’s time to get your dancing shoes on Rhys Stephenson!”
The star has presented CBBC shows including Blue Peter and Saturday Mash-Up! and is an ambassador for children’s mental health charity Place2Be.
Rhys recently appeared on Steph’s Packed Lunch to talk to the former BBC Breakfast presenter about internet safety.
Addressing his upcoming appearance on the favourite BBC dance show, Rhys commented on social media: “I am buzzing to be a part of Strictly Come Dancing 2021.
“I have dreamt about being on this show, and I know for a fact that it is going to exceed every expectation.
“I cannot wait to experience it all: the costumes, the orchestra, even Craig’s glare! I am ready!”
Yesterday, Steph rushed to twitter after hearing that her friend and co-star John was joining the line-up.
“YES!!!! Our John Whaite!!!” Steph wrote on the micro-blogging site alongside a tweet from the BBC show announcing the news.
“On @bbcstrictly this year. As part of the first all male partnership!
“So proud of you honey,” she added.
So far, the celebrity line-up includes John Whaite, presenter AJ Odudu, actor and author Robert Webb and McFly star Tom Fletcher, with more to be announced.
A total of 15 famous faces will go head to head every Saturday in the Autumn, each hoping to be crowned the winner alongside their dance partner and lift the sought-after Glitterball Trophy.
On the judging panel this year will be Strictly Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas, as well as veteran dancer Anton Du Beke, who will replace Bruno Tonioli.
The reigning champion is 56-year-old actor Bill Bailey, who danced his way to victory alongside Oti Mabuse, 30, in 2020.
