Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid returned to the breakfast show today, after spending her summer break in Cornwall. She originally announced her holiday was due to begin on July 27.
However, she made a brief early return last month so that Kate Garraway could also take a break.
She has now told co-star Ben Shephard she had a “gorgeous” time away but confessed she got scolded for referring to it as a “staycation”.
The presenter said: “It was gorgeous, I got told off for calling it a staycation. It’s not a staycation, Ben.”
Ben agreed with her critics: “Because you’re not staying at home.”
Susanna responded: “But I thought stay at home, was staying in the UK and having a lovely holiday in the UK.”
Ben quipped: “More fool you.”
“More fool me,” Susanna agreed.
He then explained the real meaning of a staycation to their viewers.
He said: “A staycation is when you holiday in your home, you stay in your home.”
“I thought that was lockdown!” Susanna joked.
But amid the witty remarks, Susanna took the opportunity to thank locals in Cornwall for their hospitality.
She said: “Thank you to the good people of Cornwall for being so kind and gorgeous and for, frankly, providing us good weather.

“There were glimmers of sunshine, glimmers.”
But despite the purported scolding, GMB viewers also heap praise on the broadcaster.
When Susanna returned so that Kate could go on her first break without her husband Derek Draper, who is recovering from Covid-19, fans took to Twitter to commend the TV star.
One person tweeted: “Friendship is priceless, well done @susannareid100.”
Another viewer added: “It’s what great friends do help when needed.
