Lily Collins began acting at the age of two when she starred in BBC sitcom Growing Pains. The 32-year-old went on to have her career breakthrough in the sports-drama film The Blind Side back in 2009.

The actress has since grown an even wider fan base following the release of hit Netflix show Emily In Paris.

Lily stars as eponymous Emily who moves to France to provide an American point of view at French marketing firm Savoir.

During the early days of her journey, she splits from her boyfriend and later finds herself at the centre of a love triangle.

Her career is also met with some lows along the way when she is fired from the firm after mistakes and then rehired.

While promoting her new role, Lily recalled how getting to where she is now wasn’t an easy ride, despite what people may think due to who her father is.

Lily is the daughter of Genesis star Phil Collins and Jill Tavelman.

She spilled of the early days in her career: “When I was younger, trying to start my journey into the entertainment world, I was told by quite a few people, ‘Well, what makes you special? There’s so many different siblings and family members and people out there. Why you?’”

Such treatment made other actors change their surname, but Lily refused to follow suit.

“I’m so incredibly proud of what my surname represents, for what my dad’s done,” she told Glamour UK.

“And I’m an incredibly proud daughter.

“But I am going on my own path, my own journey. I didn’t want to change my last name.”

The actress may be in demand with movie roles, but one thing she won’t sign up for is her dad’s biopic.

Lily explained that she wouldn’t want to mix her personal and professional life, but would be intrigued about who plays him.

“I think I would want to keep that part of my life separate,” she told Radio Times.

“But I’d be really fascinated to find out who they’d choose to play him.”

Lily added that her father is “very proud” of her work.

The actress is far from her latest character’s personality in real life.

In 2021, she married Charlie McDowell in Colorado after a year-long engagement.

The Netflix star shared a picture from their wedding day on her Instagram page, writing: “I’ve never wanted to be someone’s someone more than I do yours, and now I get to be your wife.”

Emily In Paris series one and two is available to watch on Netflix.
