Meghan Markle may be a divisive figure to some royalists, but her style credentials are not up for debate.

When she steps out in something it’s bound to sell out, from her favourite Stuart Weitzman’s Legend pumps to the Club Monaco jackets she’s been spotted in.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex last night attended the ‘Salute to Freedom’ gala at NYC’s Intrepid Museum, and was glowing in a red structured gown.

Custom-made by Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera, the scarlet dress features a racer neck and a deep V, flowing into a full skirt that’s offset by a second, more fitted skirt underneath.

Unfortunately for most of us, it does come with a price tag fit for a monarch.

The jewellery and shoes in Meghan’s ‘fit cost over £32,000, and while we can’t verify the price of the gown (it’s for the pre-fall 2022 line) others in past Carolina Herrera collections stretch upwards of £4,000.

You can still dress like a royal on a commoner’s budget, though. Here are our Markle-worthy red dress picks to get her look:

True Violet bow high-low midi dress

£85, Asos

Despite its differing neckline, this is a great dupe of Meghan’s dress because of its unique shape.

The high-low hemline means you can wear a pencil skirt underneath (for the full Meg effect), and the oversized fit gives it some edge. Pair with chunky heels and a leather jacket to dress down, or jewels and stilettos if you’re off to the ball.

Scuba One Shoulder Split Maxi Dress

£32, Boohoo

One of the most showstopping features of the Duchess of Sussex’s gown last night was its dramatic thigh split.

This Boohoo option also has that, as well as a flattering drape over the stomach to cover any bloating (we’ve all been there after eating at an event).

Plus, you’ll save a few thousand compared to the original.

Aurora Deep V Maxi Dress

£67, Revolve

For a sexy take on Meghan Markle’s gala style, this Superdown dress will really ramp things up.

It has a deep V neckline to show off any cleavage, as well as that all-important thigh split. Plus, the velvet fabric gives it a more festive feel.

Freya Halter Neck Low Back Maxi Dress

£113, Meshki

Imagine if Meghan’s outfit last night had a baby with her second wedding dress (the Stella McCartney number worn to the reception) and this is what you’ve got.

With sleek lines and rouleau straps, it’s chanelling her aesthetic through and through.

The open back and gold hardware add that extra touch of sophistication.
