Boss slammed over extreme office rule that punishes staff who are 1 minute late

An office manager was slammed for punishing tardy employees.

While punctuality is important in the workplace, the penalty for arriving one minute late seems quite extreme.

The offending poster reads: "New office rule: For every minute you are late for work, you will be required to work for 10 minutes after 6pm.

"For example, if you arrive at 10:02, you will have to stay an extra 20 minutes until 6:20pm. Thanks."

On Reddit, a poster displaying the "new office rule" went viral and attracted plenty of criticism.

An employee captioned the image: "Shout out the worst place I ever worked (minimum wage, of course)."

The post garnered more than 70,300 likes and thousands of comments – with many blasting the boss.

One responder wrote: "That seems really dumb and highly illegal."

Another commented: "I'd tell them to f*** off."

A third said: "Do you want to lose employees? Because that's how you lose employees."

A fourth cheekily asked: "If you show up at 9:58 do you get to leave at 5:40?"

And another advised: "Go in an hour late and force them to follow this rule, then cash in on overtime."

A minority backed the boss and agreed with the strict punishments though.

One Redditor pointed out: "It’s honestly so easy to show up on time though… like. I get to work 10 minutes early."

And another agreed: "How about being on time? Quit your whining."
