Milan fashion week is here and we couldn’t ask for a better way to kick things off than with the iconic Italian design powerhouse Gucci.
Gucci will forever have a mass of dedicated followers, from customers waiting on the next drop, to its loyal celebrity fans such as Margot Robbie, Harry Styles and Florence Welch. All following the lead of creative director Alessandro Michele; who breathes fashion like it’s a religion, so it was fitting that the AW20 show was called “The Ritual.”
Wednesday 20th February saw Gucci’s show turn heads as the backstage became the spectacle.
Turning the catwalk into a rotating stage, and through tinted windows, the audience got to see something that is rarely seen; a behind the scenes look as the Gucci team dressed the models. Once fully clothes, each model took their place at the front window of the carousel, standing still like a mannequin in a shop window.
Keeping true to their core identity all Gucci’s key styles were present;
Pilgrim era and the victoriana style was a key theme that ran through out the collection.
Alessandro added white bibs to the smock dresses and black pilgrim esque hats to tailored suits and gowns.
Large fru fru gowns reminiscent of Marie Antoinette graced the catwalk in pastel hues of pale pink and blue.
Gucci is bringing back the 80’s inspired ruffle, the block bright colours Alessandro used added a soft interlude between the gothic pieces.
