Selena Gomez really meant it when she sang, “I’m gonna come back as a blonde.”

The pop star, 28, unveiled her new platinum blond hair on Friday, debuting the brighter ‘do in a photo on her beauty brand‘s Instagram account.

“New look. Need to pick new Rare Beauty lip and blush shades now,” she captioned a mirror selfie of her dramatically different hair color.

While it’s rare to see Gomez without her brunette locks, this isn’t her first time trying out a lighter look: She previously went blond in 2017.

“Didn’t even recognize her AH THE BLONDE QUEEN IS BACK!” one fan exclaimed, while another wrote, “BLONDLENA IS BACK.”

Unlike Gomez’s other recent hair changes — like the rainbow wig she test-drove in February — this major color transformation, achieved using products from Joico and In Common, made for quite the time commitment.

“The entire process took 200 foils, several bowls of bleach and eight hours of hair magic,” her longtime colorists Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri revealed in a press release, calling the “edgier” style “perfect for summer.”

“[Gomez] typically keeps it pretty natural, but this time she went for a big change,” they added. “This blond is unique to her as we had to make sure there was an equal balance of cool and warm for her skin tone.”

Perhaps Gomez can now sympathize with Billie Eilish’s time-consuming dye job, as the star recently told fans it took two months to transform her hair from its signature neon green to a new icy blond hue.

Before her hairstyle switch-up, it was Gomez’s fashion making headlines: Earlier this month, Kendall Jenner sported the same Rodarte dress Gomez wore for her “De Una Vez” music video, sparking plenty of drama in the process.
