What is the team news?

Brendan Rodgers has dismissed any concerns that star striker Jamie Vardy will be sidelined.

Vardy was taken off during the 2-0 win at Tottenham with a groin problem.

But Rodgers said in his team news briefing this week: "He will be fine for the game."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has assessed his United squad following their midweek Carabao Cup quarter-final at Everton.

What have they said?

Roy Keane has insisted that Manchester United can challenge Liverpool for the title.

The Manchester United legend described Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's side as the 'best of the rest'.

Manchester United are third in the Premier League table behind Leicester and Liverpool.

The Red Devils put in a solid performance during the 6-2 win over Leeds on Sunday.

And Keane, 49, has predicted that United could be Liverpool's closest challengers this season.

He told Sky Sports: "I don't believe McTominay there when he said they don't look at league tables.

"Everybody looks at league tables. Players and staff. That's what you're playing the game for.

"You want to know where you are obviously and where you're heading to.

"It's been a nice few days for United. They had to beat Sheffield United and Leeds just to put another marker down.

"I still think Liverpool are the strongest but United I think could be the best of the rest."

    OVER 50’S ONLY

Whilst we are talking about Vardy, why not take a look at his 50th Premier League goal for the Foxes which was ironically against guess who?

    That’s right, Manchester United.

The first call on the new training ground would have been for the physio team to patch Jamie Vardy up in time for today’s game against Manchester United.

The 33-year-old has taken up his usual goal scoring chart position at Leicester, leading the line with 13 goals in all competitions this season but he had to be substituted just before the final whistle in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Spurs.

The England international was a nightmare for Jose Mourinho’s team because not only did he open the scoring from the penalty spot but it was Vardy’s pressure which forced Toby Alderweireld into heading the ball into his own net.

Despite the Leicester forward coming off injured, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Vardy should be fit to face Manchester United this afternoon.

The Foxes bosses exact words were: “Vardy will be fine for the game. It’s just a bit of soreness.”

Will he be fit to make the starting line-up this afternoon?

    Stay tuned to find out.

2020 has certainly been a year to forget for many reasons but one of the few shining lights to come out of it is Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford.

The 27-year-old has been honoured for his off the pitch duties as he raised awareness for child food poverty in the UK.

Rashford was successful in his campaign aimed towards the Government to extend free school meals during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This meant that over 1.3m children across the country were able to claim free school meal vouchers during the summer holidays.

In addition to that, another policy change saw the Government provide more than £400m to support poor children and their families in England.

The England international had previously spoken about the sacrifices his family had to make when he was a child which included going without food to eat.

Rashford was awarded with the Expert Panel Special Award at the Sports Personality Show to go along with becoming an MBE at the Queen’s birthday.

He took to Instagram to address everyone involved in the successful campaign by saying: “For everyone who, over the last 12 months has stepped in to support our vulnerable children, thank you. This one is for you. #spoty”

A win for Leicester would put them within only a point of the league leaders Liverpool however, if United take the three points, they leapfrog today’s opponents landing them in 2nd place until other teams play throughout the course of the weekend.

This really is a mouth-watering tie.

The King Power all set as we start the countdown until kick off between Leicester and Manchester United.

The previous encounter between these two saw Manchester United put a dagger in the heart of the Foxes as they snatched Champions League qualification from Leicester on the final day of the season.

Chelsea’s victory over Wolves meant that Brendan Rodgers’ men needed three points to confirm their spot in the top four but a point for United was enough.

Good chances were squandered by both sides with the pick of the bunch being a Marcus Rashford effort which was expertly saved by Kasper Schmeichel and a Vardy glanced header which hit the frame of the goal to the England international’s frustration.

It seemed to be heading for a draw until a 71st minute clumsy challenge between the center back pairing of Wes Morgan and former United defender Jonny Evans brought down Martial in the box enabling Bruno Fernandes to convert from the penalty spot.

Leicester had no option but to throw the kitchen sink at Solskjaer’s side at this point but Evans’ day went from bad to worse as his late wild lunge on McTominay resulted in him seeing red. Not a day to remember for him.

Jesse Lingard would then rub salt into the Foxes wounds eight minutes into stoppage time after stealing the ball from Schmeichel and rolling it into an empty net.

Brendan Rodgers’ side had been in a Champions League qualification spot for more than half of the season which made the result even more painful.

The mission for revenge is on!

Hi SunSport family, hope you are all good and not hungover from yesterday’s Christmas celebrations.

Even if you are, sit back and relax because this next fixture is shaping up to be a Boxing Day blockbuster event and we could see a knock out.

3rd place Manchester United travel to the King Power stadium where they’ll be taking on 2nd place Leicester in a top of the table clash this afternoon.

Both teams are coming into this game off the back of triumphant league success. Leicester ran out 2-0 winners in North London last weekend. A penalty from Jamie Vardy and a 59th minute own goal from Toby Alderweireld was enough for the Foxes to conquer an in-form Spurs side.

As for the Red Devils, if you’ve read a previous blog of mine about Manchester United scoring goals in quick succession, Leeds was another team to fall victim to it.

Solskjaer’s team had too much to handle for the Whites firing six goals past them in an eight goal thriller with two of them goals coming from McTominay inside the first three minutes! Bruno Fernandes also got himself a brace with Lindelof and James finishing off the rout.

This was a huge statement set by United because Leeds are not a side easy to beat but Leicester’s confidence will also be on cloud 9.
