Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Ronaldo targeted by PSG in huge Messi link up, CR7 injury, Aston Villa victory REACTION

CRISTIANO RONALDO has had conversations with his agent about his future at Manchester United, SunSport can exclusively reveal.

Jorge Mendes has flown to the UK for talks with the 36-year-old over status at Old Trafford following reports of a fall-out between Ralf Rangnick and the senior player, which the club deny.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes has been forced to deny rumours of him joining Barcelona, with a withering takedown of a Portuguese TV station.

Paul Pogba is nearing a return to full fitness with United doctors giving him the green light to return to full training after picking up a thigh injury.

SunSport also revealed that United have offered Pogba a new deal before he walks out of the door for nothing.

The Frenchman would be become one of the best-paid players in the Premier League if he signed on the dotted line.

And United are into the fourth round of the FA Cup after Scott McTominay's early header saw them beat Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

    United 'suffered' against Villa

Raphael Varane reckons Manchester United had to suffer to seal their narrow FA Cup third-round win against Aston Villa.

A Scott McTominay eighth-minute goal was enough to seal a 1-0 victory against Steven Gerrard's side.

Varane told BBC Sport: "It was a difficult match. We had to suffer a lot on the pitch but together and I liked the spirit of this match.

"We had the opportunity to score more goals. When it was not possible to play higher up the pitch we were compact and did not let them play easily.

"We had to be aggressive and as a result it is good. We are happy. We need more confidence, we need to be together and I think we are in a good way."

    Ron on the move?

Cristiano Ronaldo is thought to have held crisis talks about his future with agent Jorge Mendes amid concerns over Manchester United's form.

SunSport claims the Portugal superstar is thought to be frustrated with some of the club's performance.

Mendes is reported to have jetted to the UK to address the Red Devils star's concerns.

A source close to the player told SunSport: “The team is receiving a lot of criticism and he knows he is regarded as one of the leaders.

“There are quite a lot of problems and Cristiano is feeling the pressure and is very stressed by the situation.

    Good morning Man United fans

Man United will face Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fourth round after beating Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

United made a dream start, with Scott McTominay heading in early on from a superb cross from Fred.

And despite a valiant effort from Villa, the Red Devils managed to hold on and march into the next round.

Villa boss Gerrard exuded the same resilience as his team when United fans booed the ex-Liverpool star as he walked to the dugout for the clash.

But an unphased Gerrard turned towards the United boo boys to stare back at the baying crowd in defiance.

Red Devils fans also let their own team know that they aren’t happy with the current level of football being played by the group.

During the hotly contested fixture, supporters unfurled a banner Eric Cantona, Roy Keane and Bryan Robson – along with the word ‘standards’.

However, two United players who did satisfy the United faithful was Scott McTominay and Fred – nicknamed ‘McFred’, who linked up to score the Manchester side’s only goal of the game.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo missed the clash with a ‘muscle problem’, and wasn’t even in the matchday squad due to his injury.

Utd fans vent frustration towards Rashford

Rashford has been criticised by fans and pundits alike after an under-par performance against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

The Red Devils scraped past Steven Gerrard's side 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Fans found themselves particularly frustrated as Rashford missed out on a tap in.

Old Trafford groaned in unison as their No10 was flat-footed after a Mason Greenwood effort was parried and could have seen Rashford grab a tap-in.

United win FA Cup third-round clash

United will face Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fourth round after beating Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

United made a dream start, with Scott McTominay heading in early on from a superb cross from Fred.

Danny Ings thought he had responded for the Villans, but his leveller was disallowed by VAR after a lengthy delay.

And despite a feisty second half – and another Villa goal ruled out for offside – Ralf Rangnick's side saw things out.

    Gerrard faces United boo-boys

Steven Gerrard turned and stared down a hostile Manchester United crowd who booed him as he walked to the dugout for this evening’s FA Cup clash at Old Trafford.

The Aston Villa manager got a less then friendly reaction from the Red Devils faithful because of his legendary status with their big rivals Liverpool.

Gerrard was often barracked by United fans during his incredible 17 years of service as a player for the Reds.

But this evening’s clash at Old Trafford was the first time he has led a side out as a manager.

The 41-year-old walked out of the tunnel and started making his way up the touchline.

As he did so he heard the loud boos coming from behind him and spun on his heels to stare back at the baying crowd.

    Rashford back with girlfriend

Marcus Rashford is back dating his childhood sweetheart — just eight months after their “painful” split.

Marcus and Lucia Loi — both 24 — are believed to have linked up again shortly before Christmas.

University graduate Lucia was then spotted getting into the England forward’s car following United’s 1-0 defeat against Wolves on January 3.

She also posted a cryptic picture on Instagram of a tattooed man’s hand resting on her boot.

A source said: “The intent for them to get back together has always been there.

“The break was good for their relationship as it offered them both space and assurance that they wanted to make this work moving forward.

“They have been together since school so an opportunity to breathe and focus on themselves was important.”

Another source said: “They have a shared history. She is one of the people who knows him best. They got back together before Christmas and are taking things slowly.

“But they make each other happy and he knows she is loyal and he can trust her.”

    Man Utd fans loving ‘McFred’

United fans are in dreamland after 'McFred' put them 1-0 up against Aston Villa in their FA Cup clash.

Brazil midfielder Fred hooked the ball into the box on seven minutes and Scott McTominay was there to head past Emiliano Martinez in the Villa goal.

It was the perfect reaction following a dismal 1-0 home defeat to Wolves in the Premier League.

And United fans were quick to praise the central midfield duo on social media – using their special combined nickname.

Johnny Spencer posted on Twitter: "Love a good McFred goal."

Another supporter wrote that they 'always believed in McFred', while one added that they 'can't explain how much I love McFred'.

United fans rejoice as Rangnick ditches formation

United fans rejoiced as Ralf Rangnick reverted back to their usual 4-2-3-1 formation.

The German has insisted on using a 4-2-2-2 setup since taking temporary charge in November.

United had used two holding midfielders, with Bruno Fernandes often in a No10 role, two wingers and one central striker.

But in recent matches Rangnick introduced pairings in midfield, out wide and up front.

United were fortunate on many occasions to avoid defeat before finally being exposed by Wolves in a 1-0 home loss.

That defeat seemed to spark a change of mind for Rangnick, who deployed a 4-2-3-1 against Villa.

And it had instant success as Scott McTominay headed United 1-0 in front.

Cantona, Keane and Robson are 'standards'

United fans have unfurled a banner at this evening's FA Cup clash with Aston Villa to remind their team they expect better from them.

The banner features three of United's greatest-ever players – Eric Cantona, Roy Keane and Bryan Robson – along with the word 'standards'.

It comes as the team struggle for form under new caretaker boss Ralf Rangnick and a sobering Prem defeat to Wolves last week.

It is not the first time the banner has been displayed at Old Trafford as it was also rolled out during a match in December.

Cantona, Robson and Keane all captained the Red Devils to title glory.

But there was something for the home fans to cheer when midfielder Scott McTominay gave them an early lead against Villa.

    Foden/Rooney comparison is ‘silly’

Ravel Morrison has branded comparisons between Phil Foden and Wayne Rooney ‘silly’.

Fans went online debating whether they would prefer the Manchester City star or Man United legend in their team.

Morrison could not believe Foden was already being compared to his now-boss at Pride Park.

Morrison tweeted: “Both serious players! But let’s not be silly now!

“Wayne Rooney is clear from any English player.”

    Fans mock Rooney

Fans hoping to spend a night with Wayne Rooney will have to fork out up to £450 for a ticket.

For that huge price you meet the footie ace and get a signed Man United shirt.

But many mocked the cost of the Evening With . . . event.

Steven Garrett posted online: “The prices are a f disgrace.”

Jill Moorehead wrote on Facebook: “Not at that price.”

And David Bryan added: “Would be a waste of money.”

    Ronaldo out with ‘muscle problem’

Ronaldo missed Manchester United's FA Cup tie against Aston Villa with 'muscle problem'.

The forward was left out of the squad completely against Steven Gerrard's Villa.

But manager Ralf Rangnick confirmed Ronaldo has suffered a knock and will not be risked for the cup competition.

He said: "I spoke with Cristiano yesterday before training, he told me that he had some problems for the last couple of days, some minor problems.

"In the end we decided to not take any risks in a cup game that could easily last 120 minutes."

Lingard, Mata and Matic make the subs' bench.

Gerrard has put Martinez in goal and named Mings as captain.

Man Utd have ‘NO policy to improve youngsters’

Axel Tuanzebe's agent has slammed Manchester United following his client's loan move to Napoli.

Fabrizio Ferrari lashed out at Red Devils bosses, citing a 'confusing management of players' and a lack of 'policy to improve youngsters'.

The one-cap former England Under-21s star was loaned out to Aston Villa in the summer, before being moved on again, this time to Napoli, last week.

And agent Ferrari has now taken aim at Old Trafford chiefs for their decision-making.

The one-cap former England Under-21s star was loaned out to Aston Villa in the summer, before being moved on again, this time to Napoli, last week.

And agent Ferrari has now taken aim at Old Trafford chiefs for their decision-making.

Ferrari told Radio Punto Nuovo: “I believe that Manchester United has made particular decisions for the growth of their young players…

"I don’t think they have a policy to improve their training.

"They are confusing in the management of players under contract.

"Tuanzebe has returned to these managerial changes.”

Rangnick expects Pogba return in 'weeks'

Rangnick expects Pogba to return from injury early next month.

Pogba's been out of injury since November but Rangick's been told that the Frenchman will be back on the pitch quite soon.

He said: "As far as I know, I was told a week ago it would be a minimum of at least another four or five weeks before he is fit for training again.

"I saw him this morning before the training session, he was in the locker room, and I hope he will be back as soon as possible."

Coutinho to miss FA Cup clash

Man United won't have to contend with Aston Villa's new signing Philippe Coutinho in the FA Cup tonight.

The Brazil international is still finalising his deal with Villa – ruling him out of their FA Cup tie against United.

However, Coutinho will be available when the two sides clash for the second time this week in the Prem on Saturday, Villa boss Gerrard revealed.

Gerrard said: "Philippe is currently in the process of finalising his immigration papers and we are looking forward to getting him on the training pitch with the group on Wednesday at Bodymoor."

    Sevilla ‘ready' new Martial bid

Sevilla are reportedly set to launch a new bid for Manchester United misfit Anthony Martial.

Ekrem Konur claims the Spaniards will make a fresh approach to sign the striker on loan after seeing an initial offer rejected.

Martial has told interim United boss Ralf Rangnick he wants to move this month.

But Sevilla’s first bid was deemed insufficient by the Red Devils chief.

It’s now reckoned the LaLiga giants are putting together a new package in the hopes of luring Martial away from Old Trafford.

United/Liverpool rivalry affected Tuanzebe at Villa

Axel Tuanzebe's first-team chances with Aston Villa were limited when ex-Liverpool star Steven Gerrard became boss, the defender's brother claims.

Tuanzebe was on loan at Villa from parent club United, and that's the reason Scouser Gerrard didn't want to play him, Dimitri Tuanzebe suggested to ESPN.

He said: "I have a lot of mixed emotions when it comes to Axel's time at Villa.

"He is loved by the fans as he contributed highly to the club's success in the Championship where he was one of the key players that helped Villa return to the Premier League.

"However, following the arrival of Steven Gerrard at Villa Park, it felt as if the rivalry between Man United and Liverpool came to life."

    Depay’s Barcelona future ‘not clear’

Memphis Depay's future at Barcelona is already in doubt after just seven months with the Spanish giants, according to reports.

The Manchester United flop is in a fight for his place under new boss Xavi due to some indifferent displays, reports Sport.

But the Netherlands forward's form has dipped since Koeman was sacked in October.

He is still the Spanish giants' top scorer with eight goals but only two of them have come in the last two months under new boss Xavi.

Sport says Koeman's departure 'was a hard blow' for Depay and that his light 'has been fading'.

It says the good form of fellow Dutch star Luuk de Jong is also putting pressure on Depay's place in the team.

And it adds the arrival of former Manchester City star Ferran Torres along with the return to fitness of Ansu Fati after a hamstring injury could see Depay fall further down the pecking order.

    Dalot calls FA Cup 'special'

Diogo Dalot has featured in many cup tournaments during his career but he reckons the FA Cup is the most special.

United take on Aston Villa in tonight's FA Cup third-round clash and Dalot thinks playing in the cup provides an atmosphere that can't be found in other tournaments.

He said on United's website: “After playing a few cup games now in different leagues and in different countries, then I’d say the FA Cup is probably the most special one you can play in.

"Because of the history it has and the atmosphere you have in these kinds of games."

    No United bid for Zakaria

Ralf Rangnick is a fan of Dennis Zakaria but according to Fabrizio Romano Manchester United a yet to make a bid for the midfielder.

And Romano confirmed there are four teams chasing the Borussia Monchengladbach star on a free transfer.

    Milner earns Cristiano Ronaldo comparison

James Milner is in physical shape to rival the chiselled Cristiano Ronaldo.

That’s according to ex-Manchester City physio Paul Webster, who has lifted the lid on the now-Liverpool star’s fitness regime.

Milner celebrated his 36th birthday earlier this month but is still turning out in huge games for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.

And Webster revealed the midfielder has the stamina to match the sculpted Ronaldo – also 36 – telling Goal: “I watched (Milner) against Chelsea and he was probably one of the fittest on the pitch.

“He looks young, he looks fit, he's probably got eight percent body fat or something ridiculous.

"He's a bit like Ronaldo. I've never worked with Ronaldo, but I know people that have and I get the same impression."

    Familiar faces missing for United

Manchester United arrived at the Hyatt hotel this afternoon ahead of their FA Cup clash with Aston Villa – but Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire were nowhere to be spotted.

The Red Devils welcome their fellow Premier League side to Old Trafford this evening for their third-round clash.

Ralf Rangnick's troops arrived at the Hyatt this afternoon before making their way to the Theatre of Dreams.

But club legend Ronaldo and skipper Maguire weren't with their team-mates as they checked into the plush hotel.

Their absences are likely not a cause for concern as neither man is understood to have any injuries.

It's more than likely they're making their own way to the hotel later this afternoon.
