    Bully Boy

St Helens slinger Michael Smith has made no secret of how important the £500,000 winners’ jackpot would be to bank balance and future plans.

Darts has dramatically changed his life and allowed him to buy properties, one of which has been converted into a farm.

Yet should his fortunes dip on the oche and prize money suddenly goes down the drain, then he admits he could end up “homeless”

Smith, who keeps a passport photo of his wife and two boys in his wallet, said: “Even a year ago, I’d given up.

“But we’d just bought a new house and the money I shell out every month on mortgages, I can’t afford to give darts away and lose matches.

“If I miss mortgages, we’re out on the streets. We are homeless. I knows it adds added pressure, but it’s keeping me focused.

    PDC World Darts Championships final

Michael Smith and Peter Wright secured their places in the big final of the PDC World Championships.

Smith was the first man to progress, beating James Wade 6-3 in the first semi-final of the night.

He's into his second final at Ally Pally, and looking to go one better than he did in 2019.

Peter Wright then booked his place in the final with a thrilling 6-4 win over fellow Scotsman Gary Anderson.

Snakebite reeled off 24 180s in the process, setting a new record for the most maximums in a PDC World Championships match.

Wright, winner of the competition in 2020, is looking to lift the trophy for a second time in just three years.

Monday night's winner also takes home a whopping £500,000 in prize money.

    Wright reacts to match victory

Peter Wright is fighting back tears in his post-match interview.

An emotional Snakebite tells Sky Sports: "Wow. To get a win over Gary, one of the greatest darts players ever, was amazing.

"I didn’t give up. That was so hard. I’m exhausted. I knew he would come back. I couldn’t stop him. What a game of darts – fantastic.

"I’ve got a knee injury and I have it strapped up. It’s burning like hell at the moment. [I] need to rest it up and it should be alright for the final."

    Post match semi-final stats

Here's a look at the tale of the tape from that thrilling semi-final clash.

Gary Anderson is very unlucky to be going home with the stats he produced in that match.

He averaged 102.72, and hit 15 180s, with 43 per cent success on the doubles.

But Wright's 104.38 average, 24 180s and 42 per cent checkout success was just that little bit better.

Either way, the World Championships has produced an absolute belter of a clash.
