Updates of the men’s US Open final as Novak Djokovic needs to beat Daniil Medvedev to complete a calendar-year Grand Slam.

Daniil Medvedev wins his maiden grand slam title taking it out 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. An amazing performance for the second seed in this third final and denies Novak Djokovic a calendar grand slam and his 21st major title.

Djokovic just didn’t bring his A game today.

Third set: 6-4, 6-4, 5-3 Medvedev.
Oh it’s not over yet. Djokovic gets his first break of the final as Medvedev struggles to close it out.

At 30-30 Medvedev is two points away but Djokovic closes out the game. The Russian second seed will now serve for the US Open title.

Djokovic had a chance there up 15-30 but Medvedev wins three straight points to avoid the break and now is a game away from his maiden grand slam title.

Third set: 6-4, 6-4, 4-1 Medvedev. The Russian’s serving remains top notch as he picks up another ace to win the fourth game and take a commanding lead. Djokovic bounces back to win a game to love. This next game is crucial.

Third set: 6-4, 6-4, 3-0 Medvedev.
And that hole just got ever bigger for Novak. Medvedev breaks again and will serve for a 4-0 lead in the third. Rod Laver is sitting in the crowd, the last man to complete acalendar grand slam in 1969. He might not see it happen again today.

The perfect start to the third set for Medvedev as he breaks Djokovic. Went up 30-40 and made the most of the one break point. Djokovic in a huge hole now. Has yet to breakMedvedev in the match.

Second set: 6-4, 5-4 Medvedev. Medvedev dominates the eighth game with three winners before Djokovic remains in the set by holding serve in the following game. Medvedev now a chance to serve for a two set lead. He’s played some impressive tennis so far.

Second set: 6-4, 4-3 Medvedev. Medvedev goes up 0-30 and eyes a chance for a second break but Djokovic wins four straight points to win the game. Medvedev still up a break but Djokovic now on racquet might be finding his groove.

Second set: 6-4, 3-2 Medvedev And a huge break for the Russian. He saves two break points the previous game and then breaks Djokovic in the next. Medvedev up a set and a break. Djokovic taking a bit to get into this match and he’s clearly frustrated. New racquet not working for him either.

Second set: 6-4, 2-2 Medvedev A real battle over the last two games. Djokovic just held on for serve in the third game and then squanders to break points. Music is played through the speakers on a vital break point for Djokovic just as Medvedev is serving which leads to a let and disrupts play.

Djokovic then smashes his racquet after a poor return.

Second set: 6-4, 1-1 MedvedevDjokovic goes up 0-40 but can’t convert the break points as Medvedev comes back to hold serve.

First set: 6-4 Medvedev. And for the fifth straight match at the US Open, Djokovic drops the opening set. Didn’t bother him the last four times. Djokovic also dropped the first set at the French Open and Wimbledon finals this year but went onto win. It’s Medvedev’s third grand slam final and the first time he’s won the first set.

First set: 4-3 Medvedev. Djokovic finding a bit of groove himself on serve. Needs a break soon to get back in the set.

First set: 4-2 Medvedev. Medvedev looks unstoppable on serve. Wins the fourth game to love and then dominates again in the sixth game. He’s looking good.

First set: 1-0 Medvedev. The Russian gets the early break in the opening game of the match. It goes to deuce before Medvedev wins two straight points. A nervy start for Djokovic.

If he does, Djokovic will break a tie with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for most major titles among men.

Djokovic is 3-5 in the U.S. Open final. His nine appearances are the most in the professional era, dating to 1968.

Medvedev is trying to win his first Grand Slam title, having lost to Nadal in the 2019 U.S. Open final in his first attempt.
