Tyler Herro lived up to his name on this night.
The Heat rookie poured in 37 points off the bench in Wednesday night’s 112-109 win over the Celtics, putting Miami one win away from its first NBA Finals appearance since 2014.
Herro, the 20-year-old shooting guard who was picked 13th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Kentucky, added six rebounds and three assists to help give the Heat a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals.
“Wow,” Heat legend Dwyane Wade tweeted in response to Herro’s breakout game.
Herro’s stunning performance, which included 17 points in the final quarter, set a record for most points by a rookie in a conference finals game. He shot 14-from-21 on the field, and hit three pointers.
The Heat will look to eliminate Boston on Friday in Game 5.
Herro during the regular season averaged 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 55 games.
