Anne Hegerty has hit back over a Jeremy Vine Show tweet which was branded ‘disgusting’, following her appearance on the daytime programme.
The Chase star joined the popular host to discuss her family life – and opened up about her dad leaving home at Christmas when she was 12.
Promoting her appearance, the show’s official Twitter shared a clip of the 60-year-old discussing her childhood, with their 118,000 followers.
‘”Seriously Dad, did you actually have to bring the women home to the house?” Anne Hegerty says although she was “fond” of her father, there “were a lot of issues” she had with him after he left on Christmas Eve when she was 12,’ they wrote alongside the clip.
However, a loyal fan blasted the show’s official Twitter account for sharing that particular segment, branding the post ‘disgusting’.
‘Might’ve guessed your show would leap on this aside,’ they fumed. ‘Tut tut shame on you … (but it seems to be … ratings, ratings … we’ve got a scoop) … DISGUSTING!!!’
But Anne was having none of it, defending the post and her appearance.

"Seriously Dad, did you actually have to bring the women home to the house?" @annehegertyofficial says although she was "fond" of her father, she didn't feel a moral obligation to look after him, after he left the family home on Christmas Eve when she was 12. #annehegerty #jeremyvine #channel5
Replying to the fan in question, the I’m A Celebrity star simply asked: ‘What’s disgusting?’
‘Thought it was a bit cheeky of the show to want to tweet about your family’s dirty linen (it felt like they were revelling in some kind of scoop),’ they responded.
‘BUT if you’re ok with it … then everything must be all well and good!’
‘Well, after all, I did say it,’ she added. ‘It’s not like I didn’t know I was on telly.’
The video has been viewed more than 22,000 times, and saw the Governess telling the host: ‘It’s not actually the child’s job to care for the parent, that is legally not the position.
‘I did like him, I was fond of him, he was the only person to encourage me to do things. There were a lot of issues that me and my brother had with him.
‘Like, “Seriously dad, did you actually have to bring the women home to the house? Did you actually have to hand over our old toys and prams to these women? That really wasn’t very nice of you, dad.”’
The Jeremy Vine Show airs weekdays at 9.15am on Channel 5.
