It’s a new year and that means everyone including celebrities are reflecting on their year. For Busy Philipps, that means reflecting on the cancellation of her new show, Busy Tonight. Find out what she said in her post and more.
‘Busy Tonight’ was canceled
Busy Tonight showed Philipps covering the latest pop culture stories, interviewing celebrity guests, and original comedic segments. It was executive produced by Tina Fey. The star revealed to her fans that it has been canceled after six months.
“My show, Busy Tonight is not going to continue on E! after May 16th,” she said according to Deadline. “They decided not to pick it up. Look, we’re meeting with people and seeing if there’s another place that makes sense for it to go.”
She continued, “Because I would like to continue doing it. We would all like to figure out a way to continue to make it. It’s wild because we’ve only been doing the show for a relatively short period of time.”
There is one thing she wished she knew going into the experience
The funny actress later talked about the cancellation with The Hollywood Reporter. She revealed there is one thing she wished she knew when doing the show.
“I wish I would’ve known that I only had basically six weeks to get the ratings to where they had wanted them,” she said. “I didn’t know. I wished I had had more information from the network in terms of what they needed and were looking for in terms of milestones and ratings and things.”
She said she was blindsided by the news
The actress opened up about the experience again on Instagram. She made a post about her new show getting canceled. Part of the caption reads:
When my plane took off, the song that came on shuffle was my favorite Deerhunter song He Would Have Laughed. I felt like it was a good sign. When I landed, my manager texted me to call her. Which I did. And she told me E! would not renew my show after the order was finished in a month. It was effectively cancelled. I was blindsided, especially since the last text I had from the head of E(who’s now gone) was about marketing for busy tonight that he was excited to tell me about.
The post included multiple selfies of Philipps crying, some texts from that night, a new tattoo she got her ankle of a girl skating with the words “f*ck em,” and a letter her daughter wrote to E!
Later in the caption Philipps wrote, “I work hard AF and love to prove people wrong and finally, the men will always try to f*ck you over so f*ck em and figure out something else. Which is exactly what Caissie and I have been doing. And next year; in 2020 we will finally be able to share it.”
It sounds like the former talk show host is looking forward to this new year. Her fans will have to wait to see what her announcement will be this year.
