Cooking with the Stars returned on Tuesday night with a new bunch of celebrity contestants showcasing their cooking skills. Cooking head to head with one another, the two losers of the episode had to battle it out for a chance to make it into the next round. During tonight’s episode, ITV viewers were left disappointed with the “z-list” celebrities taking part and took to social media to air their annoyance.
The eight celebrities competing in this year’s show are Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke, comedian Joe Wilkinson, Doctor and TV presenter Dr Ranj Singh, The Chase legend Anne Hegerty, Zoe Ball’s son Woody Cook, TV personality Josie Gibson, Dame Kelly Holmes and Love Island star Maura Higgins.
However, when each contestant was introduced to the show, viewers were quick to take to their Twitter accounts to slam their celebrity status.
@Dayjurr11 commented: “Stars’ is a word used very loosely on this show. #CookingWithTheStars”
@_VTaylor added: “Maura isn’t a star…” referring to former Love Island star Maura Higgins.
@cb_038 said: “All the usual Z-listers I see on #CookingWithTheStars.”
@SmokeyToes76 fumed: “Let me know when the ‘Stars’ arrive to replace this bunch of x-listers! #cookingwiththestars.”
@Darrenbizzle2 tweeted: “No cooking, No stars #CookingWithTheStars.”
@Mysteron_Voice described: “So, #CookingWithTheStars is basically #CelebrityMasterchef. (sic)
Strictly legend Anton was partnered up with renowned chef Rosemary Shrager and was one of the first contestants to take part in the cook-off.
Competing against Anton was comedian Joe Wilkinson who had been mentored by Judy Joo.
Anton cooked up pork chops with apple sauce, sherry and mustard vinaigrette and topped them off with crackling.
Whilst Joe made homemade fish and chips with a Kimchi Tartare sauce.
The pair battled it out in the hopes of making it to the next round.
During the taste test, each judge agreed that Anton’s pork chops were a little overcooked with too much fat on them, however, they seemed to love his apple sauce.
For Joe, the judges were stunned at how crispy the batter around his fish was but were let down by his Kimchi Tartare sauce, as they agreed they couldn’t taste it.
Unfortunately for Joe, his dish wasn’t up to scratch for the judges, and he was sent into the final cook-off with the chance of being sent home.
In the second round, it was Woody and Josie’s turn to go head to head in a bid to impress the remaining six chefs.
Despite Josie panicking throughout the entire preparation process, she came out on top as the judges were impressed with her duck dish.
This meant that Joe and Woody would go head to head in the final cook-off, where they had to make a lemon meringue, with the judges then tasting them blind.
Unfortunately for Woody, his cooking journey had come to an end, with five out of the eight judges choosing Joe’s pudding as the best.
Cooking with the Stars airs Tuesday from 8pm on ITV.
