Coronation Street viewers were distracted while watching one poignant scene play out this evening, as Kevin and Debbie Webster put the past behind them.
After coming to blows while trapped in the freezer, the Webster siblings decided to make their peace, with Kevin wrapping his little sister in a hug.
Viewers were thrilled to witness the absence of social distancing, as the two actors, Sue Devaney and Michael Le Vell, had formed a bubble to commit to filming the scene.
Before the episode aired, an ITV announcer alerted viewers to the filming technique, letting fans know it had been produced according to Covid guidelines.
Taking to Twitter, viewers praised the soap's production team, relishing the chance to witness two characters embrace one another after almost a year of socially distanced scenes.
One said: "Weird seeing people up close on Corrie line Kevin and Debbie!"
"I love Debbie & Kevin not having to social distance it feels so refreshing to see closeness," wrote a second.
And a third chimed: "Kevin & Debbie bubbling up in the fridge?"
Following an altercation in the bistro, crooked businessman Ray Crosby, played by Mark Frost, managed to trap Kevin and Debbie inside, locking the door behind him and fleeing the scene.
Kevin and Debbie fought at first, warring over her recent dodgy dealings with Ray, only to express their love and gratitude for one another.
Debbie admitted she was envious of Kevin's life, pointing out he had family, friends and a loving girlfriend who thought the world of him.
Kevin comforted her, stunned to hear her thoughts on his lifestyle, compared to Debbie's usual inclination towards jet-setting and high-flying business deals.
Meanwhile, Abi Franklin's (Sally Carman) suspicions were raised, having learnt Kevin never showed to pick Jack up for his camping trip.
She headed to the bistro, hunting for Kevin and Debbie, but their cries for help went unheard through the thick metal walls of the industrial freezer.
In the fridge, Debbie slipped into unconsciousness, succumbing to the cold as her body temperature dropped dramatically after spending hours trapped in the icy chamber.
Kevin was determined to keep her alive, holding his sister in his arms and singing to her in an effort to keep her attention.
His voice breaking as he spoke, he uttered: "I won’t let you down."
Finishing on a cliffhanger, the episode faded out as Kevin cradled Debbie in his arms, leaving their fate unanswered.
Will Debbie and Kevin escape the freezer, or will Ray have blood on his hands?
