Donald Duck Turned 85-Years-Old and Disney Fans Are Quacking up at the Jokes

He looks pretty good for an 85-year-old Duck. Disney fans were first introduced to Donald Duck in 1934. Since then, he’s become one of the most beloved cartoon characters in history, starring in many movies and television shows. Here’s how fans are celebrating Donald’s birthday and what’s next for this character.

Disney fans met Donald Duck 85 years ago

Donald Duck first debuted in the Silly Symphony short, “The Wise Little Hen.” According to Disney’s twitter account, Donald starred in his own series of 128 cartoons between 1936 and 1961. Aside from that, Donald appeared in many Mickey Mouse cartoons, causing trouble and drawing in bad luck.

“One of the greatest satisfactions in our work here at the studio is the warm relationship that exists within our cartoon family,” said Walt Disney. “Mickey, Pluto, Goofy, and the whole gang have always been a lot of fun to work with. But like many large families, we have a problem child. You’re right, it’s Donald Duck.”

Donald then created his own gang of feathered friends — the Three Caballeros. With José and Panchito at his side, Donald embarked on worldly adventures. The original The Three Caballeros movie premiered in 1944. A television series, Legend of The Three Caballeros, premieres in the United States on Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, later this year.

Is Donald finally getting some love and attention?

This hotheaded duck has always gotten the short end of the stick, even as one of Mickey’s best friends. When he’s watching his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, something always goes wrong. When he’s trying to woo Daisy Duck, he can never seem to impress her. He’s not funny like Goofy or cute like Pluto. He’s just Donald Fauntleroy Duck.

Now that it’s his birthday, it might finally be Donald’s time to shine. On June 9, 2019, Disney fans raced to Twitter, expressing their love for the “Fab Five” member.

“Looks like our favorite duck is celebrating his birthday today. I want to wish you a happy 85th birthday to Donald Duck,” said one Twitter user.

“Happy 85th birthday #DonaldDuck even though you may have changed over the years the one thing that hasn’t changed is your constant bad luck and temper. Happy birthday but seriously get some help on that anger,” said another Twitter user.

“Guys calories don’t count. Donald duck turns 85 today. Ducks normally only live ’til they’re 7. We have to celebrate,” said another Twitter user.

He’s in a show on Disney XD

After being on House of Mouse, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and, recently, A Mickey Mouse Cartoon, Donald earned his day in the spotlight. In 2017, Disney XD premiered Duck Tales, a cartoon about Donald, his nephews, Scrooge McDuck, and the rest of the Disney duck gang.

This show also introduces a few of Donald’s new friends, like Launchpad McQuack and Webbigail Vanderquack. Together, the Ducks go on adventures and share their latest “Duck Tales.” Of course, Donald is as temperamental, hot-headed, and loveable as always.

Legend of The Three Caballeros premieres in the United States on Disney+ in November 2019.
