But Max was fuming when he discovered that sly Ian had used the money to buy Sharon the Queen Vic – behind Max’s back.
Next week’s episodes of EastEnders will see Max thrilled to discover that his divorce from Rainie has finally come through.
He heads over to thank Ian for helping him out and tells him to keep £2,000 of what he owes him – but that he needs the rest of the money back now.
Later, Ian prepares for his meeting with Councillor Douglas to try and gain his support to become the Chair of the Planning Committee.
Later, Max jokes about ways he can get the money off Ian.
But when Kathy overhears, she warns Max that Ian doesn’t need any extra stress right now – and piques Max's suspicions.
During the meeting at Walford East later, Max storms in and accuses Ian of stealing his money, before announcing that he wants it back.
Is Ian about to make another enemy?
Speaking on Secrets from the Square, star Jake Wood – who plays Max – said of the storyline: "Max half-owns the restaurant with Ian Beale, but I think, just before lockdown, you saw him sign it over to Ian because he's trying to hide the money from Rainie.
"Because, obviously, the divorce has been finalised, so Ian offers to take on half of the business to prevent Rainie to get half of the divorce money. Max thought it was a great idea at the minute."
