EastEnders star Danny Dyer vows to stay on as Mick Carter for another decade

EastEnders star Danny Dyer has vowed to stay in the soap for another decade – as long as Mick Carter doesn't drown in the Thames.

Danny, 42, plans to retire at 55 and says: "Another 10 stretch and then I’ll just take a backseat.

"I love EastEnders. I’m very grateful it’s a lovely, lovely job. I’m on the best soap ever invented."

However, one main character will fall to their death from a boat party on the River Thames, during a special 35th anniversary episode as Mick celebrates the Queen Vic winning a best pub gong.

"I think I’m alright," says Danny, below, at the Cirque du Soleil’s Luzia premiere. He added that death is "a massive shock to the whole cast".

But it’s not the only shock Danny’s had.

"I tried that Veganuary," he says, but quit two weeks in as "it’s like a science to eat."

Admitting he’s "sort of" doing dry January, he says this month’s National Television Awards, where he is up for Best Serial Drama Performance, will be more subdued than his boozy 2017 showing.

He insists: "I’ll go home have a nice slice of Victoria sponge and a cup of tea."

Mick has been at the centre of some dramatic storylines of late as he struggles with anxiety and panic attacks, whilst wife Linda Carter ( Kellie Bright ) deals with alcoholism.

Thankfully, if Danny doesn't stay on EastEnders that long then he does have a prospective clothing line and branded kitchen utensils to look forward to.

Now, there's a brand we can get behind!

EastEnders continues on Friday at 8pm.
