EastEnders star reveals huge year and 'incredible stuff' coming up

EastEnders has been knocking it out of the park over the past year, making for unmissable moment after unmissable moment, and according to star James Bye this is very much set to continue.

Consider us very excited.

The BBC One soap has been must-see TV as of late, with new boss Chris Clenshaw largely responsible for such a thing, overseeing what became one of the show’s greatest years in recent memory with an increased focus on the community and character-driven storylines.

James, who plays Martin Fowler, was quick to heap praise on the show’s producer, explaining that Chris understands the ‘essence’ of EastEnders and just ‘gets’ soap as a genre.

‘To be honest, I did Strictly, kind of dipped in and out, and then came back and the show’s on fire,’ he said. ‘It was really nice and exciting.’

James, who has been featuring in a big storyline after Martin discovered 12-year-old Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) was pregnant, was also quick to add that EastEnders viewers can expect more incredible drama to come, teasing a huge year for the popular serial drama.

‘Honestly this year, without giving away too much, there’s some incredible stuff happening,’ he told Radio Times. ‘It’s gonna be a really exciting year, I think for soap but especially for EastEnders.’

The best news.

The long-running serial drama is lining up another unmissable week later in February, with a trailer teasing a huge week for some of Walford’s key women.

One of the key characters to feature in the trailer is Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), who will remain at the heart of the show moving forward, according to Chris.

‘Linda has cemented herself as a modern day matriarch and we have big plans ahead for her,’ the EastEnders boss told Metro.co.uk.

‘Kellie is going to start shooting something in January that goes out in February and it’s something that we as a show haven’t done before.’

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
