He belongs on Broadway. Disney+ subscribers first met Carlos with season 1 of the Disney+ original show, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. This character, portrayed by Rodriguez, was the choreographer for his high school’s production of High School Musical, making a few friends along the way.

Carlos will return for season 2 of this mockumentary, when the students put on a production of Beauty and the Beast. This actor appeared in High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special, as well as an episode of ABC’s award-winning comedy series, Modern Family.

Prior to his role on the Disney+ original series, this actor starred in Modern Family season 10, during the episode titled “The Wild.” Rodriguez portrayed a worker named Eduardo, appearing alongside Julie Bowen (Claire) and Ed O’Neill (Jay.)

As an employee at the new and improved version of Pritchett’s Closets, Jay was having a hard time adjusting to this high-tech lifestyle. Thanks to Eduardo’s support, though, the members of this extended family found a new home at the company.

Jay even started messing around with a 3D printer. When a version his butt printed out, Rodriguez’ character said, “it’s still hot,” referring to the printout. Jay, of course, thought the employee was talking about his butt.

Carlos and Seb are two of Disney’s first openly gay characters

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series included original songs from Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett, as well as some romantic moments between Rodriguez’ character, Carlos, and another drama nerd named Seb.

“It’s like a dream come true,” Rodriguez said of his role on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, according to an interview with Hollywood Life. “It’s just that lottery ticket job that I never really even stopped to think about.

“Because when you’re making the show, it’s so much about the storylines and the characters that you never realize how it’s going to hit with audiences until it’s done and aired,” he continued. “I’m so happy that people have found things to relate to with these characters. It’s really a real dream come true.”

Episodes of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series are available for streaming on Disney+, while episodes of Modern Family featuring Rodriguez are available on the subscription service, Hulu.
