Inspirational Grandad behind tonight’s Grand Design passes before project begins
Grand Designs star Rosa broke down in tears during Wednesday’s Channel 4 episode following the loss of her grandfather Leo.
Rosa turned away from the camera before she explained her beloved grandfather had died suddenly before he got to see his vision of turning a decommissioned steam railway reservoir into a home.
The couple also ended up spending way more than the £700,000 they had budgeted for.
“I feel very sad because it is all his stuff,” Rosa sobbed. “His bike that is in there and everything.
“All the cards that I have ever written him all saying grandad, all his pictures, he’s got everything in there that he has ever kept.
“I feel so proud to be his granddaughter.”

Kevin McCloud cut in: “Granddad Leo, the inspiration behind so much of this project passed away suddenly in late December.”
Rosa later said: “It was a complete shock, on the Tuesday he was fine, and then on the Wednesday he wasn’t.”
“He quietly just slipped away then,” she added.
For a while, Rosa and Craig had to put the renovation project on hold due to the fact they had run out of money.
They were then forced to borrow a further £80,000 from the bank, which still wasn’t enough.

Craig told the camera: “I never imagined I’d be in this much debt.”
However, despite running out of funds, Rosa and Craig were able to borrow the remainder of the money they needed to complete the project.
Craig even got his hands dirty himself by helping the builders lay the flooring for their dream home.
When host Kevin McCloud went back to see the finished project, he couldn’t believe his eyes.
Following the emotional segment, fans took to social media in droves, with many admitting to shedding a tear.
