This Morning presenters Alison Hammond and Holly Willoughby have paid tribute to each other after it emerged that they would be going head-to-head at next month’s National Television Awards.

The stars of the ITV show have both been shortlisted in the ‘Best TV Presenter’ category, alongside a line-up that also includes reigning champs Ant and Dec, The Chase’s Bradley Walsh and former Good Morning Britain host, Piers Morgan.

But showing it’s all friendly competition, Alison, who hosts the morning show alongside Dermot O’Leary every Friday, sent a sweet message to Holly, who presents Monday to Friday with best friend, Phillip Schofield.

Posting a photo of the two of them together on her Instagram story, Alison, 46, wrote: “Can’t think of anyone I’d rather lose to than you @hollywilloughby.”

Holly, 40, later reposted Alison’s story, adding a ‘Same’ GIF to show she was also right behind her friend.

And it seems Alison can’t believe her luck that she’s in a category alongside Holly and their other ITV colleagues, after being voted through by the public after making it onto the original longlist.

After hearing the news this morning, Alison posted a snap to her Instagram account, writing: “I’m absolutely beside myself that I’m even up for a nomination for best TV presenter.”

The mum-of-one continued: “Thanks to everyone who voted for me, it honestly means the world.

“I am so humbled that it was voted for by the public, you have always championed everything I do. Win or lose this is a massive win in my eyes and thanks to everyone who has been a part of this journey.”

Alison then went on to poke fun at Ant and Dec, who have won for the past 19 years in a row.

She joked: “Now get voting I need to beat @antanddec and bring this baby home. Don’t forget to vote for This Morning too. One love.”

Alison’s celebrity friends were quick to congratulate her on the big news, including her TV husband Dermot, who said: “I’m really really…really happy for you. Huge congrats buddy. Big love, one love.”

Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly added: “You go gorgeous girl” alongside a crown emoji, while judge Motsi Mabuse simply wrote: “queen.”

Meanwhile, Rochelle Humes echoed their thoughts, writing: “Smashed it Queen” and Alison’s former Big Brother housemate Kate Lawler said: “Proud of you darling.”
