Viewers tuned into the premiere episode of the medieval-style drama where they were greeted with a graphic birth scene that left fans reeling.
Some fans said the first episode should even have come with a trigger warning because scenes were so realistic.
One fan wrote: "House of the Dragon premiered last night. I won ruin for those who haven’t seen it yet, but I believe one of the scenes was the most painfully graphic , realistic, horrifying things I’ve ever seen at work or anywhere. Was it just me?"
Another twitter user wrote: "Minor but necessary spoiler that House of the Dragon episode 1 contains a GRAPHIC childbirth sequence. If you will find this disturbing for any reason (and there are many), please take care!!"
"I enjoyed House of the Dragon. But I don’t think its an overly necessary show and I think people deserve to know that it’s extremely graphic and not for everyone. There’s an extremely traumatic birth scene that people should be aware of so they don’t see it by accident," said a third fan.
A fourth commented: "I must have forgotten how graphic GOT was because my jaw is on the FLOOR with house of the dragon" along with a crying emoji.
In the first episode, Sian Brooke's character, Queen Aemma goes into labour while a tournament is underway to celebrate the birth of the heir for King Viserys Targaryen I, who is played by Paddy Considine.
But scenes show the medical personell cut into the womb to pull the baby directly out which caused fatal blood loss. The baby boy, named Baelon also died, as was discovered at the Queen's funeral.
And viewers subsequently took to Twitter in droves to react to the moment, as some called it the most graphic scene they have seen on television.
One fan wrote: "The House of the Dragon episode should have come with a content warning – so for those who need it here it is. Content warning – loss of baby and graphic crash c section"
A second commented: "yup – im def gonna need a trigger warning before these gruesome scenes in House of the Dragon @HBO maybe you should warn people"
One said: "House of the Dragon should’ve come with trigger warnings for extremely pregnant women about to give birth"
A fourth user noted: "There’s been so much death in this series but this scene of her giving birth with no anesthetic c section?? Might be the most gruesome scene I’ve watched."
Whilst a fifth wrote: "I can not stomach this child birth scene. I am sick."
