Louise Minchin scolds BBC Breakfast reporter for breaking prop live on air

Live TV always has its risks, as BBC Breakfast reporter Nina Warhurst found out during a segment about Christmas preparations today.

Nina was at a Santa’s grotto in Liverpool to talk about how shops are already preparing for Christmas – despite it being September.

But her segment didn’t quite go to plan. As the cameras cut from the studio to Liverpool, she was seen standing in Santa’s sleigh with a worried look across her face.

“I’ve just broken the sleigh’s reins – or one set of them anyway,” she said.

“We were going to fly off but we’re going to have to be stationary now.”

Baubles from the broken rein can be seen strewn across the white floor as Louise can be heard gasping in shock back in the studio.

And, after her report ended, Louise couldn’t help but joke about the incident.

“Nina, go and fetch those reins that you broke earlier,” she said.

“We saw the baubles all over the floor.”

Dan Walker then chimes in by pretending to call security, saying: “We’ve got a bauble down, we’ve got a bauble down.”

But viewers back at home could not get their head around talking about Christmas four months out.

“Are they actually talking about Christmas in September on BBC Breakfast?” one asked.

Another wrote: “Any advertising and Christmas displays should be banned until October at the earliest by law.”

It comes after Dan and Naga Munchetty were scolded by their producer for going off-script during the show last week.

Meanwhile, Louise was left red-faced when she suffered a “disaster” wardrobe blunder.
