Maxxx season two could be on the way with all six episodes of the debut season now available to watch on All4. The series has also been made available for fans in the US on the streaming platform Hulu. Express.co.uk has everything you need to know about a potential second season.
Will there be another series of Maxxx?
Maxxx first made its debut in the UK and the US back in the summer of 2020, and the series follows O-T Fagbenle as the washed-up titular character.
The star is known for his roles in The Handmaid’s Tale and The Five, and he has taken on a new role in the upcoming Marvel film – Black Widow.
The six-part series originally aired on E4 in April 2020, but it was pulled from the schedule due to a “change in viewing habits” during the coronavirus outbreak, according to Channel 4.
Season one has only just started airing again on the streaming platforms, so it is therefore too early to say whether a second season has been given the green light.
The episodes will be airing weekly on Channel 4 and the boxset is available to watch on All4, so hopefully once all six episodes have aired fans should know a bit more about the show’s future.
When will Maxx season 2 be released?
If season two is given the go-ahead, it may take some time to come to fruition due to the coronavirus pandemic forcing TV production to go on pause.
The streaming platforms will review the viewing figures after the first season has aired before making a decision, so a new season is not likely to come to light until late 2021 or early 2022.
Fans were pleased to hear the show had been brought back, with Fiona McDermott, Channel 4 Head of Comedy, having said they “championed brand new comedy” and were “incredibly proud of this show”.
Later in October 2020 when the series reappeared on Channel 4, McDermott told Radio Times it was “wickedly funny, audacious and original”.
Some fans have compared the character to popular singer Craig David, and they are excited to find out more about the character.
Who will be in the cast of Maxxx season 2?
Of course fans cannot have Maxxx without the titular character, so if season two does get the go-ahead, Fagbenle will be reprising his role.
The award-winning actor has taken home an Olivier Award for his role of Levee in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom in 2016, amongst other accolades.
The series also stars Raised by Wolves actress Helen Monks, Gangs of London and Roadkill actress Pippa Bennet-Warner and Terminal actress Jourdan Dunn.
Fagbenle is on Instagram and he shared the trailer for the series, saying: “@maxxx is finally coming to @channel4 tomorrow at 10pm. Then on boxset bingeable. If you’re in America it’s on @hulu ! I’d love ya to check it ouuuuut! [sic]”
He also gave fans some insight on what to expect from the series, saying: “I created a comedy called @maxxx ..On the face of it Maxxx is just a loser desperate for validation but in a way I wanted to write about a culture that mixes up likes for love, followers for friends and often behaves like being famous is the same as being respected.
“@maxxx is about heartbreak, fatherhood and trying to fill the void of existence with all the wrong s*** ha![sic]”

What will happen in Maxxx season 2?
The series follows Maxxx as he attempts to prove to his family and friends that he is not the loser they take him for.
He is under pressure to get his name back into the spotlight and create new music, but the inspiration sadly is not there.
Maxxx also faces personal struggles regarding relationships and discovering more about himself, and his journey of self-discovery is likely to continue into the second season.
Fans are already calling for another instalment, with one saying on Instagram: “I love Maxxx so much! I hope more seasons are to come, @otfagbenle.”
Another fan said: “I just started watching, I’m on episode 2 and I keep having to rewind because I’m laughing so much I keep missing stuff. Very Funny.”
The series has been airing on Hulu since July, so fans in the UK have some catching up to do, but as the episodes are only 20 minutes long, it makes for easy watching.
None of the cast have given much away about the prospect of a second season, but Fagbenle seems keen to do more as he explained how his brother Luti also worked on the project.
He told The Grio: “It was a real kind of village atmosphere in the way we made it. Teamwork was the only way that we were going to try and create the kind of value on screen that we wanted to do with our modest budget.”
Fans would most definitely welcome a second season as they have taken to social media to express their excitement over the show’s return, with one saying on Twitter: “So made up #maxxx is back on the TV, I can finally watch the whole series. Don’t know why they took them off in the first place? Just watched the first three again! Genius! #4OD @OTFagbenle.”
Another fan said: “Just binged watched Maxxx! Brilliant comedy series! Heartfelt & all kinds of ridiculous @OTFagbenle you’ve smashed this out of the park! & I just loved that #EdnaMode’s advice about no capes was so masterfully ignored in the final episode, bravo to the entire cast & crew! [sic]”
