Marty Byrde (played by Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) face their biggest tests yet in the fourth and final season of Ozark. The Netflix drama is bound to go out with a bang and with enemy after enemy queuing up to take on the money laundering husband and wife duo, a new trailer has been released to tease the bloodshed and bone-crushing action in store. However, a huge clue from the promo could hint it’s Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery) who bites the bullet rather than the Byrde family.
Throughout the Ozark season four, part one trailer, Marty and Wendy’s rivalry with Darlene and new partner Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner) comes to the forefront.
It opens with the Byrdes coming to the realisation that Ruth’s allegiances no longer lie with them after a tense business meeting with Darlene.
Sitting in their casino, Marty and Wendy welcome Darlene and Wyatt (Charlie Tahan) to warn them Omar Navarro (Felix Solis) and the cartel won’t take kindly to the queenpin growing and selling heroin again.
Introduced as a new “partner”, Ruth takes her seat and silence descends on the meeting before Darlene breaks the ice: “So what’s this message from Mexico that’s so important you had to drag us all the way in here?”
“The Navarro Cartel has been made aware that you intend to start producing heroin again,” Marty replies. “They have instructed us to warn you that their response is going to be quick and it’s going to be brutal.”
Darlene appears unmoved as she sniggers at Marty’s warning before Wendy chips in: “We’re just the messengers here.”
Ruth then sniggers herself as she locks eyes with Wendy before the trailer descends into a series of fast-paced action sequences.
And inevitably, the cartel and its henchmen all appear – including cold-blooded hitman Nelson (Nelson Bonilla).
The trailer shows Omar trying to manipulate Marty into cutting a deal with the FBI and agent Maya Miller (Jessica Frances Dukes) so he can go free – while at the same time Nelson and the rest of the cartel try to keep a lid on Darlene’s new operation.
And as if Marty’s warning wasn’t enough of a clue to tease Darlene could meet a bloody end, a split-second shot all but confirms it.
As the trailer progresses, fans see a panicked Darlene and Wyatt frozen in their shoes as they try to enter their house.
But who could spark such a reaction from the notoriously hardened queenpin? Nelson.
Ozark season 4: Wendy to be betrayed by close ally as fans spot clue?
Ozark season 4: Marty to flee for new life with Rachel in fan clue?
Ozark season 4: Ruth Langmore’s survival ‘sealed’ in huge clue?
In a brief moment, Nelson lifts up his gun and aims straight at Darlene and Wyatt.
However, before fans get to see if he pulls the trigger in the trailer, the action moves on – teeing up a nail-biting confrontation.
Could this confirm Darlene’s demise at the hands of the cartel’s most loyal and trusty assassin?
After all, Nelson is a brutal and callous murderer, never missing his target and having killed the likes of Helen (Janet McTeer), Ben (Tom Pelphrey) and the Byrdes’ therapist Sue (Marylouise Burke).
So surely seeing him in Darlene’s home with a gun in hand and pointing it at the drug dealer can only spell one thing – her death.
Fans will have to wait until season four, part one of Ozark drops to be sure but there are a number of other talking points from the promo.
It looks like Ruth is going to do her best to convince Jonah (Skylar Gaertner) to work against his own father in her quest to take down the Byrdes.
While the mystery behind Ben’s death and subsequent disappearance looks like it’ll continue to haunt Wendy as “missing” posters are spread throughout the Ozarks.
Ozark season 4, part 1 drops on Netflix on January 21, 2022.
