Regé-Jean Page Revealed His Future Goals Following 'Bridgerton' Success

Bridgerton fans rejoice. The hit Netflix series has officially been renewed for a sophomore season. The show, which premiered on the streaming service on Christmas Day 2020, has found instant success and its cast has been receiving tons of attention. One actor at the forefront of this attention is Regé-Jean Page who plays Simon Bassett on the show.

Page’s character is the reluctant Duke of Hastings on the show. As someone used to playing the field, Simon has no desire to settle down anytime soon. Thus he and Daphne Bridgerton hatch a mutually beneficial plan to feign a courtship. While the courtship makes Daphne appear more desirable to other suitors, Simon is able to cease the constant bombardment of eligible women who want to court with him. Though Daphne and Simon’s courtship begins as fake, it quickly becomes clear that they have real feelings for one another.

Regé-Jean Page is the breakout star of the ‘Bridgerton’ cast

The show has performed exceptionally well so far, receiving a renewal for season 2 less than one month after it premiered. Season 2 is set to focus on Daphne’s eldest brother, Anthony Bridgerton, and his journey to find love. Of course, Page will likely reprise his role as Simon in Season 2 even if he is not the focal point for the season. But aside from the show that made him famous, what next for Page in his career?

“I think the goals are always the same, career and otherwise,” the Bridgerton star shared in an interview with Who What Wear. “I try to keep it simple and center everything on empathy and compassion because that’s why I got into acting. That’s why I got into storytelling, in general. That’s why I’m interested in culture. The most rewarding part of this job is anytime someone says that something we did made them feel less alone or made them understand the world or understand themselves in a way they didn’t before because they could relate.”

Page on why storytelling matters

Page continued on to share that one of the reasons he loved being a storyteller is because he has the chance to change perspectives for people. “So the goal is very simply that: to continue doing that better and wider for more types of people, to tell stories that challenge what you think you already know about the world, and reinforce the things we look to about the world in terms of how we like each other, how we love each other, and how we can express ourselves despite the restrictions society may put on us. It’s very wide, but also it’s deliberately wide because why wouldn’t you want to be ambitious enough to do it all?”

Bridgerton has certainly managed to shift how people perceive the Regency era. We look forward to seeing how the show progresses and seeing what Page uses his talents for next.
