RITA Ora has won planning permission to rip up her ‘haunted home’ in London causing building misery for her posh neighbours – despite relocating to Los Angeles.
The star bought the six-bedroom Grade II-listed property in Primrose Hill, built in 1882, earlier this year for £7.5 million and is planning on an extensive modernisation, including a panic room and CCTV usually installed in airports.
She wants to put in hi-tech security cameras – the Hikvision Network IR PTZ system, which is advertised for being used in areas with a wide range ’such as the rivers, forests, roads, railways, airports, ports, squares, parks, scene spots, stations and large events’ due to its 25x optical zoom, 100 metre range and being able to capture five faces at the same time.
For the last nine months, the Let Me Love You singer has been in Los Angeles and is now dating Thor director Taika Waititi.
Despite the Stateside move, Rita is still ploughing on with the construction work, which also includes a ‘panic room’, new shower and dressing room, a fireplace in the master bedroom and the creation of a pantry. The property is in the Eaton Conservation Area with strict planning laws.
An official report said: 'A full security review was conducted covering the new premises, the potential safeguards that should be in place to enable the client to be at peace while residing at home, happy in the knowledge they are safe.
'Due to her success, her fame, her wealth and exposure to the public and media, this all leaves her open to unknown sinister risks/intentions.
'There are two rooms that can be used as a safe room where the client can go as a last safe haven. The door must be strong with good locks, and whichever room is chosen must have good mobile phone coverage.
'Sadly, the client has been the victim of stalkers, intruders and online fraudsters. Luckily, because of her security measures, all have been neutralised.'
The 30-year-old has a reputation for being a ’neighbour from hell’, with the renovations due to last several months.
In 2015, neighbours at Rita’s old north London home complained of her holding an all-night party and noise from rebuilding work, which included lorries going up and down the quiet street.
Two years, previously, she was allegedly forced to leave her rented west London penthouse after complaints about the noise and threats of eviction, with a source telling The Sun: 'Rita has been told about the noise before but she ignored it and now the landlord says she has to go. This isn't the first time she's been threatened with eviction but it's much more serious now.'
The new property is said to be haunted, according to The Sun, who reckons the seller had previously said: 'People definitely believe they hear strange things here at night.'
The mansion was owned more than a century ago by a celebrated illustrator of the Grimm fairy tales, who was said to have hung his fairy models from the exposed beams.
