Why Sara Gilbert Feels like Leaving 'The Talk' Is the Right Move

Sara Gilbert is leaving The Talk and will be replaced by Marie Osmond. The whole thing is a big shakeup since Gilbert has been a co-host since the beginning of the show. Why does she feel like it’s the right move? Here is everything she said about her decision.

Sara Gilbert announced she decided to leave The Talk

The actress revealed that she will no longer be on the talk show in between her other projects. She opened up about the reason for her decision on the show.

“This is something that I have been struggling with for a while, and going back and forth, but I’ve decided that it’s time for me to leave the show at the end of this season,” she revealed.

She continued, “I obviously love it here, and like I said, this was extremely difficult. Last season, I did The Conners and was also producing and [hosted] here. I loved it and felt totally empowered, but also, if I’m being honest about it, my life was slightly out of balance. I wasn’t able to spend as much time with my three kids as I’d like, or take time for myself.”

The mother also admitted that she wanted to get back to some things in her personal life. Fans will still be able to see Gilbert in her other projects.

Gilbert is continuing with acting and producing

The Conners will be back for a second season. Gilbert plays Darlene on the show and produces it. She also recently appeared on Weird City and Atypical. This all goes along with the plan she revealed during her announcement.

“As I’ve continued on, I’m starting to develop more things to produce, and I’m having opportunities to act,” Gilbert said. “I don’t know how I’m going to do it all. I’m looking at the next six months and thinking, ‘There’s not time.’ … It’s difficult because this is a place that I love and a place that I’m extremely happy. I love the hosts, I love the crew, I love our staff, I’m so grateful to the audience for letting me in your homes every day. It’s been such an honor.”

She said leaving is the right move because she’s been on The Talk for so long

The former host doesn’t seem to be regretting her decision. She talked more about why she isn’t looking back now that she has left.

“Something had to give,” Gilbert said on My Favorite Episode With Michael Schneider. “And I’ve been lucky enough to do the talk show for nine years. And so that felt like the right move is, ‘OK, I’ve done that. And I’ve fully explored it.’ And now it’s time to do other creative ventures.”

Gilbert also realized a perk to not being a host anymore. “There is some relief and thinking like, ‘Wow, if I go through anything in my personal life now, I don’t have to talk about it,’” she said. “That’s a been a stretch for me, because I’ve never been a very public person. I think I put myself on the show to try to push the boundaries like that and grow spiritually and psychologically, but I’m okay with letting that piece of it go.”

Marie Osmond will join the show in September. Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood will continue with her.
