ITV series Wild Bill will be starting tonight (Wednesday, June 12) and promises to be a hilarious and gritty watch in equal measure. Wild Bill follows senior police officer Bill Hixon (played by Rob Lowe) who relocates with his teenage daughter from Miami to Boston, Lincolnshire to start a new life and solve crimes. As soon as he arrives on day one, Bill is confronted with many colourful characters who aren’t too pleased with the American officer in town.
As the show goes on, Bill gets to know the locals as well encountering some shady characters as he solves crimes with his whip-smart and loyal partner Muriel Yeardsley (Browyn James).
Each week Bill and Muriel will be meeting some dodgy figures as well as contending with the less friendly members of the community.
Express.co.uk spoke exclusively to star Bronwyn James about the comedy-drama and what audiences can expect as well as the cast.
WILD BILL ON ITV AIR DATE, CAST, TRAILER, PLOT
Bill Hixon – Rob Lowe
Hollywood star Rob Lowe graces British screens as Bill Hixon, who has been sent to Boston to bring down the crime rate in the so-called “murder capital” of the UK.
Lowe has been on screens since the Eighties as part of the Brat Pack. He’s had countless roles of the years across film and television with his most well-known credits including St Elmo’s Fire, Wayne’s World, The West Wing and more recently the Austin Powers films.
Reflecting on working with Lowe, James said: “Oh, it was wonderful. He’s such a funny bloke on and off camera.
“He’s also someone you get the sense who really cares about the quality of the show and the quality of the performance, so he’s very generous in that way. He’s just lovely.”
WHERE IS WILD BILL ON ITV FILMED?
Muriel Yeardsley – Bronwyn James
Rising star Bronwyn James takes on the role of Muriel Yeardsley, who is one of the few members of the police force who is actually glad Bill has arrived.
James’ other big roles include Fanny Lambert in Hulu series Harlots and Megan Barnard in The ABC Murders.
She teased about her character: “Muriel is someone who is part of the community, she’s a farmer girl, she’s from a rural background.
“So, she’s knows the people of Boston and those are her family. So even though she knows this high-flying American cop is going to come in and ruffle a few feathers and get rid of some people’s jobs, she knows at the end of the day he’s there to help and do the best he can for her community.
“So, if he’s going to try to help her, she’s going to soak up everything she can from him. There’s where the whole mentor-mentee relationship comes in.”
HOW MANY EPISODES ARE IN WILD BILL ON ITV?
PC Drakes – Divian Ladwa
Up-and-coming actor Divian Ladwa portray the goofy PC Drakes, who makes quite the first impression on Bill.
Ladwa is no stranger to screens having starring in the Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman drama Lion as well as roles in Detectorists, Jade Dragon Ant-Man and the Wasp and You, Me and the Apocalypse which also starred Lowe.
Kelsey Hixon – Aloreia Spencer
Newcomer Aloreia Spencer stars opposite Lowe as Kelsey Hixon, Bill’s teenage daughter.
Wild Bill is Spencer’s first screen role, according to IMDb.
Lydia Price – Anjli Mohindra
Anjli Mohindra plays Bill’s rival and police officer Lydia Price, who is not happy about his presence in Boston and will do whatever she can to undermine him.
Mohindra is possibly most famous for her role as terrorist Nadia in last year’s Bodyguard but has some big credits under her belt such as ITV’s Bancroft, Dark Heart, Cucumber and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
James explained that Lydia and Muriel have an interesting relationship because she was her mentor before Bill came along.
She said: “There’s a sense she definitely has a lot of respect for Lydia, but Lydia definitely doesn’t have that respect for Bill, which rubs Muriel the wrong way.”
James went on to reveal that her co-star Mohindra had described Lydia and Bill as “a divorced couple” with Muriel and the rest of the police precinct as their children caught in the middle.
Oleg – Aleksandar Jovanovic
German actor Aleksandar Jovanovic is Oleg, the suspect local businessman whose perhaps not-so-legitimate operations could cause problems for Bill.
Jovanovic’s impressive career includes miniseries Close to the Enemy, Artic Circle, Doctor Who and Cold Feet.
Mary Harborough – Rachael Stirling
Rachael Stirling portrays lawyer Mary Harborough, who is something of an antagonist and love interest to Bill.
From roles in Tipping the Velvet, The Bletchley Circle and The Game, Stirling is a firm fixture on British television screens.
Wild Bill starts on ITV tonight at 9pm
