Yellowstone: Kevin Costner discusses being on show in 2018
The unknown outcome of Yellowstone’s gripping third season cliffhanger has been the biggest talking point throughout the wait for the next instalment. Months before the modern Western makes its return to Paramount, Luke Grimes has seemingly revealed both Kayce and John Dutton will survive their latest ordeal.
Luke Grimes has hinted both Kayce and John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) will manage to survive their horrific attacks which brought the third season of Yellowstone to a close.
After facing off against new rival Roark Morris (Josh Holloway), the Dutton family were targeted by a series of brutal ambushes in the final minutes of season three.
Both Kayce and John were targeted by unknown gunmen, while an explosive package was delivered to the office of Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly), leaving her fate unclear.
The devastating cliffhanger has kept Yellowstone’s growing audience on tenterhooks, and made the ongoing wait for season four even more painful than usual.

As production continues in Montana, Luke Grimes spoke to Monsters and Critics and seemed to confirm at least two of the three potential victims will make it out alive.
Grimes confirmed the fourth season will explore even more of Kayce’s strained relationship with his father, powerful ranch owner John Dutton.
He explained: “As the series unfolds, you figure out more and more why that is.”
The star referred to the show’s flashbacks as one of his favourite parts of Yellowstone, which have revealed more about the Duttons’ complicated family history as the show goes on.
In the latest season, fans discovered the traumatising events behind Beth’s hatred of her brother Jamie (Wes Bentley), who also realised he had been adopted into the family.
When Yellowstone’s fourth season kicks off next year, Grimes indicated there will also be a number of scenes between John and his biological son.
The star continued: “I think in the last couple of seasons, and even into the upcoming season four there’s always a pattern of them mending that, seeing eye-to-eye, and figuring each other out.”
Kayce has often been considered a disappointment by his overbearing father, although the two men went some way to fix their relationship in season three.

Luke Grimes comments not only indicated their bond will continue to grow in the fourth season, but Kayce and John will both survive being fired at the end of Yellowstone’s latest episode.
They have also undercut previous comments made by series lead Kevin Costner, who kept things close to the chest when ET Canada asked him about John’s fate in the next season.
He teased: “I can’t say. There’s an ending that you’re gonna see, hopefully it’s a powerful one for you.”
Yellowstone is expected to continue until at least season six as its popularity has continued to increase, so Costner’s departure would be a major loss.
The Hollywood star added: “I try to make things and be a part of things that have a dramatic arc to them. Just try to enjoy it right up to the end if you can.”
Although Costner was understandably reluctant to provide fans with a definitive answer, it’s now clear that John Dutton will continue to play a major part in at least the beginning of season four.
Even so, John’s ranch remains under constant threat from his rivals, so there’s still a chance he could meet a nasty end before Yellowstone’s conclusion.
Yellowstone will return with season 4 in 2021 on Paramount and Peacock.
