The former ISIS-bridge has begged the British public for forgiveness, saying there is “no evidence” she was a key player in preparing terrorist acts. The 22-year-old, who fled her east London home for Syria as a 15-year-old schoolgirl, said she wanted to be brought back to the UK and face terror charges in order to prove her innocence. ITV’s Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley said: “A lot of people here would assume in the very unlikely event that you were allowed back into Britain, you would want to resume your pre-ISIS life.

“But what you just said is quite interesting. You said you’re willing to go on trial on terror charges, go into the dock, be cross-examined and if necessary go to prison. You would accept that?”

Ms Begum said: “I would if I was given a fair trial, if I was given a chance to give my side of the story and if a judge really said, ‘you need to go to jail’ I would have to accept that.”

Presenter Susanna Reid interjected: “What do you need to go to jail for, Shamima?

“What crime do you think you need to go to jail for?”

Ms Begum continued: “Honestly the only crime I ever committed was being dumb enough to come to ISIS and even that can be refuted because I was 15 when I came.

“You can’t judge a 15-year-old for making a mistake that she very quickly regretted.”

Ms Begum, who had her British citizenship revoked by the Home Office over security concerns, appeared from the camp in Syria where she is being detained, wearing a Nike baseball cap, a grey vest, and pink nail varnish on her hands.
