Athlete needed 18 stitches after impaling his scrotum while pole vaulting

A 21 year-old athlete had to have 18 stitches after impaling his scrotum on a pole while pole vaulting.

Stomach-churning footage of Zach McWhorter’s accident was shared on his TikTok page, where the cringeworthy accident has now been watched 20 million times.

The student, who studies at Brigham University in Provo, Utah, was rushed to hospital by his urologist dad Rick afterwards, with medics stitching up the agonizing injury.

Zach told Buzzfeed: ‘I could see right into my scrotum.

‘Immediately after the incident, we got in (dad’s) car and drove to the hospital and he sewed me up.

‘It required 18 stitches.

‘Fortunately, as far as I know, there is nothing wrong with my testicles – just a scar.

‘One day, we’ll find out if they function or not…’

And having recovered, Zac is now able to see the funny side of the injury, captioning his clip: ‘That one time the pole went through my (nuts emoji)…

’18 stitches later… RIP to my future kids.’

Zach’s dad, who filmed the incident, is also a talented pole vaulter, and holds the 10th-best all-time pole vault mark for the Houston Cougars.
