Donald Trump’s tiny desk has sparked hilarious memes online as the president complained about the election, finally admitted he will leave the White House in January and had a venomous spat with a reporter.

The president held a question-and-answer session with the press in the Diplomatic Reception Room in the White House on Thanksgiving Day, marking the first time he has taken questions from the press since he lost the election to Joe Biden.

The session grew heated with Trump locking horns with Reuters correspondent Jeff Mason when asked if he will concede.

‘I’m the President of the United States. Don’t ever talk to the president that way,’ Trump raged at Mason.

During the session, the president also reiterated unfounded claims that the election was ‘rigged’ and finally admitted he would leave the White House in January despite it being a ‘very hard thing to concede’ but refused to say if he would attend Biden’s inauguration.

But many viewers of the 25-minute session were most amused by Trump’s choice of furniture, as he appeared in the reception room perched behind a somewhat undersized desk.

Social media users went into overdrive mocking the staging and posting hilarious memes comparing the president to the likes of the oversized Will Ferrell character Elf and his desk to a Fisher Price children’s version of presidential furniture.

Social media users went into overdrive mocking Trump’s tiny desk and posting hilarious memes comparing the president to the likes of the oversized Will Ferrell character Elf and his desk to a Fisher Price children’s version of presidential furniture

One person shared an image of the scene from the Christmas classic Elf where Ferrell’s character – a human who was brought up an elf in the North Pole and grows far larger than his elf companions – is sat at his tiny elfish school desk.

‘I see no difference,’ they wrote alongside the image.

One hilarious meme moved the president at his desk to the edge of a cartoon mouse hole in the wall, while another compared him to Sesame Street’s Edith Ann character who would sit on an over-sized rocking chair with her rag doll Doris.

‘I used to love Lily Tomlin’s big chair bit, but Prez’s tiny desk gag was even better,’ they wrote alongside a snap comparing the two.

One person hilariously imagined Trump’s next desk could be a pizza saver – the tiny circular desk-shaped piece of plastic that goes in the center of a pie in a box.

In another post, someone compared Trump to Little Britain spoof character holding a ginormous mobile phone.

‘Was anyone else reminded of Little Britain when they saw Trump’s tiny desk? Write the theme toon! Sing the theme toon!’ they wrote.

The president complained about the election, finally admitted he will leave the White House in January and had a spat with a reporter during a question-and-answer session with the press Thursday

But it was Trump’s tiny desk that drew viewers’ attentions as people posted hilarious memes online

Another recalled a sketch on Saturday Night Live where the grim reaper sat behind the White House desk while Trump sat at a smaller table nearby.

‘Trump at his mini Resolute Desk reminds me of this old SNL skit Face with tears of joy,’ they mocked.

One person shared footage of a baby toddling through a room with his tiny high chair still attached, mocking: ‘Trump leaving his tiny desk press conference.’

Meanwhile, another moved Trump into a room inside a miniature doll’s house.

Several people suggested a White House insider had staged the small desk as a joke, and that the president was forced to sit at a kid’s table for Thanksgiving as punishment for his recent behavior.

‘Maybe if you behave yourself, stop lying to undermine a fair election & start thinking of what’s good for the country instead of whining about how unfairly you are treated, you’ll be invited to sit at the big boy’s table. #DiaperDon,’ one person tweeted.

‘The already moved him to the Thanksgiving kids table…’ agreed someone else.

Another wrote: ‘Just want to give an extra Thanksgiving shout-out to the person in Trump’s camp who walked out to look at that desk prior to today’s presser and went, ‘Yeah, looks good. Bring him in.’

One person gave the president a bib reading ‘I’m the boss until Mom gets home’ and added a baby’s aerial toy dangling from the microphone.

Another person shared a meme where it appeared that ‘grown ups’ Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris were sitting just off-camera in the same room holding a COVID-19 working session while Trump sat at his ‘kiddie table’.

‘Donald Trump was moved to the kiddie table this Thanksgiving. Watch out, the grown ups are here now,’ they wrote.

Others suggested Trump had been given a children’s version of the White House adult desk so that he could play at being president.

‘It’s like one of those ‘just like Mommy’ mini kitchen sets they sell in toy catalogs, but for the Resolute Desk. I can’t stop looking at it,’ another wrote.

‘Awww, look what Trump got for Christmas: Fisher Price’s ‘I’m still President’ Miniature Desk Playset! So cute,’ another person joined in.

Another shared an image of a kid’s toy desk, simply writing: ‘Here’s trumps desk for his next news conference.’

Other social media users compared Thursday’s session to ‘Tiny Desk Concerts’, a series of live concerts hosted virtually by NPR Music.

‘NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series really went downhill,’ one person tweeted.

Another simply wrote: ‘This tiny desk concert is weird.’

Some reignited old jokes about Trump having ‘tiny hands’ to go with the tiny desk.

‘Thought this pic was photoshopped, but nope, just hilariously symbolic! Mini desk. Tiny hands. Infinitesimally small soul,’ wrote one social media user.

‘#tinydesk #DiaperDonald #Section 230’ ‘Resolute Desk’ #TinyDesk. We are gonna miss Trump when he’s gone,’ another wrote, referencing the hashtags now synonymous with the president.

Several people also congratulated the person behind the staging

Several people also congratulated the person behind the staging with one recalling Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani’s election fraud press conference at a landscaping business next door to a sex shop – an apparent muddle-up of plans to stage it at a luxury hotel.

‘I want to salute the dark, subtle genius, quietly at work in the White House staff, who managed to move Rudy Giuliani’s press conference to a run down garden centre, and to seat Donald Trump himself at that tiny, tiny desk. Be safe. The world needs your art,’ they wrote.

But someone else warned the person responsible could lose their job: ‘The person, woman or man, who set this #trump children’s table Resolute Desk scene up for the camera on TV, will be fired tomorrow! #personwomanmancameratv was foreshadowing!’
