Meghan Markle and Prince Harry remain ‘recluses’ from their Montecito neighbours for fear of details of their private lives being leaked, a royal expert has claimed.
Harry and Meghan moved to the celebrity hotspot in California when they stepped down from royal duties last March.
The relocation to the US came as part of the prince and his wife’s process of adapting to their new non-royal existence, taking on various projects under their Archewell banner.
Recently, royal commentator Lady Colin Campbell claimed that the Sussexes had been struggling to settle into their new suburban lifestyles, suggesting that the couple’s neighbours “don’t want to touch them”.
However, responding to these reports, royal expert Neil Sean has suggested: “Far from being snubbed, I can tell you it’s the other way round.”
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Neil explained: “What’s truly happened is this; Harry and Meghan have become very, very reclusive.
“Lots of neighbours have tried to become friends with the former royals. And why not of course, because for them just to be pictured with someone who stood next to our gracious Majesty The Queen would be a great coup.
“So in fact it is Harry and Meghan who have decided to remain reclusive.”
Surrounded by other celebrity families – Oprah Winfrey reportedly lives nearby – the couple gave birth to their youngest child Lilibet in the summer, and Neil suggested that they explore the local neighbourhood together.
“That’s not to say they don’t mix, people see them in and around that neighbourhood – particularly Prince Harry riding his bike,” the royal expert continued.
“Meghan, not so much… she does apparently go out with Prince Harry for some rambles and walks, but not for long.
“The true story behind this particular rumour is this; they’re both very frightened about anything about their life getting out.
“I do understand why Harry in particular is very keen to keep hold of that privacy. It remains to be seen though, just how much further or longer they can remain private.”
Neil went on to explain that the couple’s privacy may well be challenged with events set to take place next year.
This includes the release of Prince Harry’s tell-all memoir which is set for publication in late 2022.
Additionally, Meghan has attracted media attention recently when she used her 'Duchess of Sussex' title to petition for paid parental leave in the US.
