Fuming gran fights off ‘wee sh**e’ burglar nicking her cigs days before 90th

A fearless pensioner has been left "raging" after a burglar broke into her home and pinched her cigs and lighter – just two days before her 90th birthday.

Micheline Stephens scared the burglar off by calling him "a wee sh**e" after finding the man in her kitchen at 8.20am on Friday, November 20.

She tried to yank him by the rucksack he was wearing to stop him escaping through her window, EdinburghLive reports.

But the pensioner – known to pals in Cupar, Fife, Scotland, as Michelle – reached for a cigarette following the ordeal only to find that the man had nicked her fags and her lighter.

The fuming pensioner, who was born in France and drinks a Martini everyday, has voiced concerns that she is worried that the robber may strike again in the area.

Micheline said: "I told him that he was a wee sh**e."

The man tried to escape out a window but the sprightly gran, who had mistaken him for her grandson, tried to stop him.

She said: "I noticed it was not my grandson but a young man.

"He had a rucksack on his back.

"I tried to pull him in but I couldn't bring him back in and had to let him go. I just wanted to see his face and stop him.

"How dare he come to an old person's home to do that?

"I'm old but some people are much worse than I am and would not have put up a fight.

"I want other people to stay vigilant."

Proud daughter, Earenne, added: "We are having a laugh but we realise that it could have been nasty.

"But she was protecting her home."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We received a report around 9.35am on Friday, 20 November, of a housebreaking at a property on Hill Street in Cupar."
