Larimer County Sheriff’s Office continues search for missing boater in Lake Estes, now considered recovery mission – The Denver Post

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office continued the search for a missing boater at Lake Estes Friday after he went missing Thursday while boating with three other people.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, the search continued through Thursday night into Friday morning. Shore-based and dive operations stopped when it became dark Thursday night and investigators switched to sonar until around 2 a.m. Friday.

Additional resources are expected to be active Friday to help in the search. The Sheriff’s Office is now considering this search a recovery mission for the missing man.

Investigation into the incident has found that two adult men and two adult women left the Lake Estes Marina around 3:30 p.m. Thursday on a rented pontoon boat. One of the men fell into the water less than an hour after leaving the marina in the general area of Fisherman’s Nook, located on the north side of the lake, according to a news release.

The remaining people on the boat tried to find the man in the water and beached the boat to call for help when they were unable to find him. The boaters said the man was visiting from out of state, while the other three were from the Boulder area.

Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to call investigator Pete Mesecher at 970-498-5144.

The release said that Lake Estes is expected to remain closed Friday to all watercrafts including boats, paddle boards, kayaks and more as the search continues.
